Windar and Barbaria - Spring Break Slaves 2 - Reporting from Pirate Cay
Spring Break Slaves 2 - Reporting from Pirate Cay - Windar & Barbaria.jpg
Sun, sand, palm trees, the soft waters of the Caribbean...Who doesn't love that? OK, a few of the broke college students lured to a rich man's private island as "Companions" have occasionally had to suffer whippings, depraved sexual exploitation, competitions where the losers pay a price, and other assorted torments, but the setting is lovely. You may remember the first story in this series which left two of our poor students, Tara and Delia, on the island after their classes resumed, due to circumstances beyond their control. Well, one of their fellow classmates (initials BM) notices that they haven't returned and decides to investigate. You will hear from her soon (a few complaints, perhaps?), so you won't have to suffer endless chapters of my writing. This story should stand on its own, but for those who haven't read the first in this series, that would probably enhance your enjoyment. Now, sit back, mix yourself a nice rum cocktail and enjoy...

Jimsac and Scorpio - The Tale of Malins and Kathy
The Tale of Malins and Kathy - Jimsac & Scorpio.jpg
Through the evocative art of Scorpio and accompanying texts by Jimsac, follow the travails of the traiotors Malins and Kathy to the brutal administrations of Phlebas the Torturer. Before the lustful, vengeful eyes of the maddening crowd, she is stripped, mocked and humiliated, and mercilessly flogged before being driven to the place of execution, to the cheers and jeers of the crowd, to the horrors of being nailed to a cross and crucified, only to endure further tortures and degradations while hanging from the wood. Don’t miss exquisitely art and accompanying texts!

Praefectus Praetorio - The Fate of a Goth Girl
The Fate of a Goth Girl - Praefectus Praetorio.jpg
It was 383 AD, a year of great upheaval in the Western Roman Empire. Hadrian's Wall, the northern Roman frontier in Britain, was overrun by the Picts and fell into ruin. Flavius Gratianus was the Emperor of the West. But Roman troops in Britain rebelled and in August, Gratian was assassinated leaving Gaul. In the Western Empire, signs of decay were everywhere, though ignored or denied by most. However, tucked away in Southern Gaul, the old Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis, was, in the early part of the year a placid island of continuity. A barbarian people known as Goths had settled in what is now Romania until driven soiuth and westward by the Huns. After epic wars against the Eastern Empire, some migrated into Gallia Narbonensis. They were despised as ignorant barbarians by the cultured Romans, with no rights and many were unjustly enslaved. One of those many unfortunates is the topic of this sad tale. At twenty-four, Barbaria, the daughter of a chief, was single, well-educated, respected, and not a little feared for her fiery spirit and temper. It was the middle of Julius mensis (July) and a sweltering hot day in the countryside. Barbaria had been visiting a neighboring village. Just past noon, she was walking back toward her home when her life changed for the worse. Much worse!

Juan1234 - Talbus the Guard
Talbus the Guard - Juan1234.jpg
Talbus never crucified a single person. He had a distaste for it, and from the start of his career in the legion, he had always volunteered to guard the crosses while the criminals died instead of helping to carry out the executions himself. Someone had to stand guard, and nobody else wanted to, so each day, when the work was done and the other soldiers went back to barracks, or to the taverns and brothels, Talbus stood guard. In truth, he wasn’t a good soldier, and his willingness to guard the crosses was so useful and good for the morale of the rest of the legion, that by the time he was in his fifties, he had become a permanent fixture outside the southern gate of Massilia, wandering among the crosses from dawn to dusk each day for decades, listening to the cries of the slaves and criminals as they hung there, watching them die.

Barbaria - The Cardinal Bishop and his Female Pope
The Cardinal Bishop and his Female Pope - Barbaria.jpg
The year is 1691. The place is the Vatican. Pope Alexander VIII has died unexpectedly. A divided College of Cardinals elects a dark horse candidate to be his successor. The new Pope, the 242nd, takes the name Innocent XI and begins, with the aid of close confidant and supporter, Cardinal Bishop Praetorio, a pontificate that shakes the entrenched Vatican establishment with controversial new initiatives and reforms. But wait. Unbeknownst by everyone but the Cardinal Bishop, the new Pope is a woman! But how long can that fact be hidden? Follow Praetorio’s emotionally conflicted telling of the fateful and shocking sequence of events … the betrayal, discovery, arrest, confinement, rape, trial, torture, condemnation and sentencing that led to her public humiliation and execution by crucifixion in St. Peter’s Square as a reviled papal imposter and anti-Christ.

Alternative epilogue by @Praefectus Praetorio :
Twenty Years After (with Apologies to Alexandre Dumas père and @Barbaria1 )

October 1711

Autumn leaves were thick underfoot as the little procession worked its way slowly down the Via Ostiense past the pyramid of Cestius toward the Porta San Paolo, (St Paul's Gate).
Porta_S._Paolo_-_Plate_011_-_Giuseppe_Vasi.jpg
A very old but still tall and erect man walked in the center draped in the scarlet robes of a Cardinal of the Holy Church. He was supported on each side by a young priest, clothed in black.
Just before the gate, they turned off to the left, through a small opening in a wall, into an enclosed meadow just next to the ancient Aurelian Walls of Rome.
The two young priests crossed themselves nervously as they entered this foreign land. The quiet, well-tended place was interrupted by a few upright stones with strange, non-Latin inscriptions. None bore the sign of the cross.

They led the old man to a small stone set flat into the ground with no inscription at all. There, he insisted that they release him, and he allowed his ancient knees to fall onto the hard, unyielding stone. The Priests cringed at the knowledge of how painful that must have been, but only the slightest groan escaped the old man's lips. They then retired as expected and allowed him to commune with the dead.

Cardinal-Bishop-Emeritus Praefectus Praetorio delivered his usual weekly silent newsletter on matters at the Vatican and throughout the church. He reported with regret that the last major reform that he had helped promulgate had been annulled by the Pope and the new, ultra-orthodox curia. He did not report that the last stone inscription referencing her Papacy had been discovered and rudely chiseled away at the curia's orders. He also did not say that he was being forced into full retirement at the end of the year.

With tears streaming down his cheeks as they had at each of these visits over the last twenty years, the senior prelate apologized for failing to save her and confessing once more his undying love for Barbara of Mohr. Then, his silence ended as a great wailing came from his tired old lungs, and he clasped his hands to his chest in sorrow. Overcome with emotion, the old man rocked and swayed and soon fell over on his side on the grass.

The two priests hurried up to help him to his feet. Still sobbing uncontrollably, he allowed them to steer him back to the Via Ostiense and the painful march back to the Vatican.

The Cardinal Bishop did not have the strength to visit the pleasant greenspace the next week or the next. Another week on, he died while at morning prayers. The other Cardinals were shocked when, in his will, he had insisted that he be buried in the unconsecrated ground by Porta San Paolo. While a few non-catholic foreigners had been buried there, it was unprecedented that a Prince of the Church would be so interred. Nevertheless, the highly influential Cardinal Étienne Le Camus, Bishop of Grenoble had insisted that his wishes be honored.

The burying of a major Cardinal gave the ground a bit of respectability. Over the years, it became the place where non-Catholics were buried in Rome and came to be known as the Cimitero Acattolico (Non-Catholic Cemetery), or Cimitero Inglese (English Cemetery) for the many English buried there, including the poets Shelly and Keats. Due to this, it is an attraction for visitors even today. But none of these who wander the cool, peaceful space know the story of the small, flat gray stone without inscription not far from the proud monument over a Cardinal.

Praefectus Praetorio - Trailer Park Trash Trixie's Torments - Part I
Trailer Park Trash Trixie's Torments - Part I - Praefectus Praetorio.jpg
Red-haired Trixie Thomson was a cheery and loving child despite a home situation that would horrify many. For as long as she could remember, Trixie had lived alone with her mother, Magnolia in a dilapidated single-wide perched unevenly on cinderblocks in “Bubba Jim’s Mobile Home Resort” in Branchwater, Alabama. From a very young age, Trixie had seen other kids point at her and say "Trailer Park Trash." Through incredibly hard work and determination, she had received some education and managed to be accepted at the Foreign Services Institute of the US State Department to be trained for the Embassy in Singapore. Facing discrimination and outright abuse from some of those in power, her future was in doubt. Will she "rise above?" Or will her shameful background drag her back down into the mud?

Barbaria - Barb goes BATS
Barb goes BATS - Barbaria.jpg
Witch burning days occur once a year in Cruxton, as officially decreed by the Earls of Cruxton sometime back in the 1500s. The burnings had been going on now for over a century and had become a well attended, keenly anticipated celebratory event. It’s 1715, and Barbara Moore, barmaid; has been accused of witchery. More specifically of wanton flaunting of a particular bit of her quite awesome anatomy with the intent purpose of undermining the good moral fiber of the menfolk of the fair town of Cruxton. Her scandalous behavior, so it is charged, can only be seen as the evil work of the Devil. But wait, she will not go to the stake and pyre alone, for it seems Cruxton has become infected with an epidemic of witchery, and five more CF girls have been sentenced to join her. Don’t miss this one!

Windar & Barbaria - The Village Whipping Post
The Village Whipping Post - Windar & Barbaria.jpg
An oak tree grows in the forest near the Baltic Sea. One day, it is cut down and part of it is made into a whipping post which is erected in the center of the village. A young woman born on the same day as the tree sneaks off from work in the fields for a quick sexual interlude with her lover. They are caught and they make a very intimate acquaintance with the whipping post in this tale based on a historical incident.
