it's not Roman but I think Assyrians
The cruelty of the Assyrians was extreme - perhaps still is today as shown by the deeds of ISIS. The Assyrians knew torture was an effective tool of psychological warfare and that their opponents would think twice before resisting their demands. When a city resisted instead of immediately submitting, the Assyrian king that defeated them proudly stated:

“I flayed as many nobles as had rebelled against me [and] draped their skins over the pile [of corpses]; some I spread out within the pile, some I erected on stakes upon the pile … I flayed many right through my land [and] draped their skins over the walls.”
Assyrian king Ashurbanipal (668–631 BC)
(In Albert Kirk Grayson, “Assyrian Royal Inscriptions, Part 2: From Tiglath-pileser I to Ashur-nasir-apli II;” Wiesbaden, Germany, Otto Harrassowitz, 1976, page 165.

Good morning all
It's been a long time since I published any manipulations.
taried, lack of inspiration and sweating.
May also not be a lot of audience.
But for the very sympathetic faithful who follow me, I am back
I saw the other Arcimboldo manipulations, magnificent he is the best.
Where can you admire his works?
Happy anyway to find you with this little work on the cruxifiction in Rome.

Nice to have you back Zfx! And nice inferno you share with us. Was it done to celebrate Women's Day?
I used your pregnant ladies to celebrate this nice day.

Crucifixion Class of 2021!

It's a bit cheeky of me to say it, but the one writhing on her cross in the front centre could be me -
but I leave it to everyone here to identify the CF cruxettes, I'm sure we're all there!

I assume the guy in the foreground is doing some kind of sacrifice. (He looks like he's chopping onions.) So this occasion is some kind of triumph and the crucified are prisoners?

I could be the one on the wheel directly over Eul’s head. Don’t believe I’ve ever been put on a wheel here on CF before. A new experience for me.
I'm referring to zfx's pic, you're looking at Martha Come's :p
Actually in zfx's I thought you might be the girl kneeling waiting to be next -
but maybe she's too co-operative and submissive, there's one on the high cross over to the right who's telling the Romans what she thinks of them and their way of accommodating visitors, loud and clear!

 Now I need to go look at zfx’s pic!

Oh yes, you’re right. The kneeling one definitely could be me alright. She even has the red highlights I have in my hair in sunlight! But the bitching one on the high cross to the right is a good candidate too.

Barb may need some of that jellyfish stuff for her memory. In our very own story, "Barbary Coast" you and the Moroccan pirate were tied to a wheel that alternately dunked you and him in filthy water by the evil Ottoman Shehzad...

I'm not at all sure what's going on, but zfx has manipped a painting by Pavel Ryzhenkov called 'He chose faith' or 'The martyrdom of St George':

An impressive manip, especially now that I see the original painting. All the crucified figures are well blended into the painting, and the edits to the background are extremely well done to remove a few of the original characters and insert the new figures. It presents quite a spectacle. :clapping::clapping:

I've always liked Eul on a cross. ;) :very_hot:
