You've never seen it? Really? Wow, I thought everyone had seen it. Classic sword and sorcery movie.
I watched it again several years. With the exception of the special effects in one scene (and the fact that swords are forged, not cast), it holds up pretty well. Interesting fantasy world, good storyline, decently acted, not a lot of dialogue, lots of action...and the scenery is lovely.
I recommend watching it, at least once in your lifetime.

Having played with real swords not only would those overly heavy unbalanced swords get you killed absolutely NONE of the actors have a clue as to how to properly handle a sword.
I could cut my way thru the men in that movie with a dagger and collect all the girls for myself in about 1/2 an jour.

Well...yeah. Obviously. Movies don't do good sword work. But, it is an entertaining story. I can't judge a movie based on the combat, because they are all wrong...always. I would hate every movie I watch if I did that. So, just like here, and the other fantasies I have, I prefer to suspend disbelief enough to enjoy what I'm watching.
Heh. I actually have a guy wanting to help me do an intro to spear and shield video. I joined his Thibault study group, and he's getting interested in spears, and finding new recruits to come play with us. We'll see how it goes.
And speaking of sword and spear work, since you are into HEMA, if you decide to come down to the SDF Tournament of Defense event in November, I should have my booth set up. Maybe I'll make you something nice.

Looking up Conan the Barbarian, I see that it is from that.
Looking up Conan, I also found the following. But it looks newer, so I think it is from another piece of Conan media other than the Arnold Schwarzenegger film.
An there's also this, which I always thought was from some live action role play event, but maybe it is behind the scenes. I don't know why I thought a role play event would involve nudity like this.

Well a lot of movie combat is for the audience not for people who know what they are doing. So the moves are overly big (and telegraphed) and the fights go on too long. A real small sword fight would be incredibly boring to watch. I find the actors who come to our academy have a hard time because they aren't use to true measure and timing.
Well have fun with the spear and shield. It would be interesting to see what manual he uses (there are sooooo few). I few years ago I got to do some preliminary work with Pictish spear and buckler. Of course it all has to be extrapolated from period art and how a weapon would move since nobody wrote a manual.
I'm not into HEMA (I study the actual historical manuals) because I find the vast majority of the adherents in my area are, well, idiots who have no clue. All they want to do is smash and bash not learn. A number of them join our academy and are usually gone in a few weeks when they can't bash (don't beat up your sparring partner they are loaning you their body as a target) and their favorite "move" winds up with them getting stabbed in the face (usually due to false time and opening their guard). I'm sure the top of the organization really know their stuff (which is why they are on top) but the vast majority? Boys (and I do mean BOYS mentally) who just want to show how macho (as if they really knew what that meant) they are.
Probably why I like older men, lol.

I actually thought it was from Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks, and she was wearing a chastity belt. Not knowing that it is a silvery loincloth.
I love their soft bodies and full, low haning breasts. I usually like there to be body decorations or jewlery in harem scenes, but here I like the simplicity of completally naked except for chastity belt. I like how being completally naked makes them look reduced, and their only outfit serves a purly utilitarian role that marks them as secured properthy.
The body type also reminds me of this Arabian Nights film, although they are chubbier here, but I can't find that many picture of it.

At least some are better than others. And there are some few really well-made and entertaining ones. Check Richard Lester's Three Musqueteers and Four Musqueteers. Zhe intro scene to the first movie is great.
