My first attempt at a ship figurehead,as usual there is no background story behind that scene!

After days becalmed, the crew felt it necessary to offer a token to the gods of the winds and seas. In a charming tradition, the slavegirl was mounted to the ship’s prow naked and in chains. She was to be left unfed and lightly watered, offered to the gods to be taken as they saw fit.

if still becalmed after a week, she was to be nailed there, her blood gifted to the sea as a token of sacrifice. Such a slave is kept watered and alive for as long as possible as testament to the willingness of the crew to appease the gods in blood sacrifice.

In either case, when the winds do pick up it is traditional to leave her so mounted until arrival at port where she will be taken down, and if alive, to be returned to it’s slavery.

As her blood flows it is open for the Aeolian gods to taste, and drips to feed the Aquatic gods. Will they find her acceptable and break the calm? The gods are fickle and even though her visage is pleasing she will only discover her fate through suffering.

When will the gods decide if she has sacrificed enough? Will she be taken off the prow in port as cold as the sea and icy winter wind? Or does it amuse the gods to see her survive, returned to her slavery brutally wounded and forever unwhole?

Such mysteries are closed to the realm of the mortal. And so we watch her torment without pity, praying to the gods to accept her sacrifice, praying for the wind and sea to flow.

A few women in reserve will please the gods of the sea even longer :D
