Sorry if I am cross posting a bit but we all seem to be ok with our sexuality and our fetish love of the image of human crucifixion.
As an amateur art historian I lament the fact that puritanism that has crept into our otherwise secular and modern society. What happened to the Nude in Art and Photography? So many people are afraid of their own bodies. As a naturist I am proud of mine, though my wife says laughing that i am a bit of an exhibitionist! But I have nice long legs! Many people are ashamed of their own bodies.Naturists do not ask for perfect bodies we do not examine the bodies of others, and I regularly swim nude with people of all shapes and sizes, fat and thin, often including the disabled. We do not exact judgment.
I remember a discussion about sexuality in one of the tabloid papers here in the UK about ten years ago and the fight against so called "porn".I wrote a letter to a newspaper saying that while doing an evening class the walls were covered in Renoir nudes and no one batted an eyelid about it.I was telephoned to see if I would appear in a live TV discussion but i said no.
I think that sexuality has been part of our culture in the West for thousands of years and we must not see it removed.I am the first to object to tacky porn on TV,it has to be creative, there is so much difference between poor witless pornography compared to creative erotica, just as there is a gulf between the naked and the nude.
Feminism has objected to the objectification of women by men but truth be told many women enjoy good pornography particularly that written or filmed by and for women!Hallelujah!
There was an important article in last Saturday's UK Daily Telegraph (14 June 2012) on Dr Brooke 'Belle de Jour' Magnanti,as played by the wonderful Billy Piper on UK television. She has been a three hundred pound an hour hooker and now a PhD scientist! Good on her!I welcome her new book The Sex Myth:Why Everything We're told is Wrong (W&N 14 pounds 99)[sorry I have lost my pound key on my keyboard!). I believe that sexuality and our expression of it can be very positive to all of us,stop being ashamed if you are! The UK Guardian Newspaper tends to be against it,and yes there are many women who are exploited and forced into prostitution. However the Telegraph tends to enjoy it and see it as a witty adjunct of 21st century fashion. The UK Sunday Times Style Magazine,(15 April 2012) usually for the lady aficionados of fashion has an article "In for a Treat" and welcomes the launch of the new soft porn fashion magazine "Treats! "fantastic, enjoy life and our bodies!
Pass the word good soft porn can be wonderful, the European artists since the Renaissance of loved women's bodies, and men's for that matter, why on earth cannot we? Anyway porn can very very funny too just as much as the funny questions we often ask about our own sexual orientation and tastes!
