Imgur will ban nudes from 15 May

gnnng this isn't about 'woke'.

Sure, terms like 'community rules for safety and security' are often used when progressive extremists infiltrate some organisation and convert it into a tool for their ideological agenda & hoarding of unaccountable power. And yeah, some of the boilerplate language in their TOS uses progressive shibboleths but that's just corporatism speaking its native tongue.

(If they were really doing this for ideological motivation you'd see a lot more self-righteous verbiage and especially a calling-out of enemies)

Anyway, from https://imgurinc.com/rules

Stuff not to do

...don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – ...we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from,

Let's be honest here, hotlinkg, hosting image libraries & turning them into a (very low-traffic) content delivery network is basically what the usage of imgur for CF is.

They are not really going to notice but if they did that would be enough for a ban - even without the official 'Nuke the Nudes' policy.

fo anyone's annoyed by wokepopery, that really doesn't mean you have to sign up with the vladcons...

Well, it is what Imgur is meant to be used. Imgur (and similar services) were always intended for users of forums and discussion groups (for example, the defunct Yahoo Groups). Back in the day, forums didn't allow users to upload pictures, and few people had a personal website. Photobucket was a solution to that problem, and Imgur followed on.

I think the paragraph you cited is aimed to website creators. Imagine that I create a website to share, for example, (non-nude) Hollywood celebrity pictures, but instead of hosting the pictures myself (and paying for the additional web space and bandwidth) I host them on Imgur. It's me, the creator and owner of the website, who is uploading them to Imgur, and not my users or viewers. IMHO, that case is a clear abuse of a service intended for end users, and it's reasonable Imgur forbids it.

Malins is right, this is solely the purview of a single billionaire, and a number of lawsuits served to visa and Mastercard. It's all out in the open, too. Reddit is planning on going public, and as part of that IPO is quiet quitting the porn that got it popular. Imgur is probably considering a similar pivot. We've seen this playbook before; create a site that allows nsfw content, capture some slice of the pie, with nsfw content driving clickthrough, like for instance tumblr becoming the go-to place for porn gifs in the 2010s. Then, pivot to family friendly when you need profitability over growth. Although the language used might seem to be woke, make no mistake, they are just as jerked around by these changes at the rest of us are. The "wokes" for the most part, seem happy enough to pay for the onlyfans of their favorite adult star, because plenty of them would think that "sex work is work". This isn't them; not every type of censorship has one culprit.

Imgur was always reddit's image dump. They are acting like that's not what they are. They are acting like there is an imgur community. This is absurd. They've got no path the profitability, honestly. They are just afraid of lawsuits.

I am still waiting for a definition of "woke" from those who like to throw the term around. Is, just as a fictional example, someone who feels free to declare themselves a lesbian who practices wicca, "woke"? One could certainly argue that they are extremely woke or at least benefitting from wokeness around them, unlike say if they lived in Uganda, which just passed a death penalty for being gay (not kidding, unfortunately). Is that where you wish anti-wokeness to lead us?

As for image hosting sites, there is mainstream and there is porn. There are plenty of porn sites and you can post images there and link to them. I think the mainstream sites want to avoid issue with, say, parents (whether woke or unwoke) whose kids use the site. I don't really have a problem with that. Also, many jurisdictions have "revenge porn laws" , which I support (does that make me woke?) because posting a pic of an ex is a shitty thing to do. How is the site supposed to know whether a nude pic is posted with the subject's consent? That's an issue for CF as well, by the way.

I actually have a vetting whole process to prevent revenge porn when someone comes with a commission to me, but whatever.

I'm going to level with you here @windar that there are two separate definitions of woke at this point. It is a word that has gotten the usefulness beaten out of it by dimwits.

For instance these fucking idiots on YouTube?

FthmvwYXoAIpUiP

No, you literal morons, the children's cartoon is not "woke".

HOWEVER

We do need a word to describe the sweeping social and political gestalt that emerged in the 2010s.

We've just got an issue with that. People have no trigger discipline with new shiny words, and everyone left of center will now just hit with the "woke" demonym by your favorite Fox News anchor. And so the treadmill continues.

I'm probably one of the only people left who identifies myself, as opposed to things I don't like, as woke.

And these are very solid points, windar. Anonymous pictures of naked people may be the driving force of some hobbies, but they do carry risks too.

It is of course difficult to know whether nude photos have the subject's consent, but we're alert to the risk and do intervene when what appear to be 'private' photos are posted. We've never had any complaint of malicious misuse of such images, though occasionally members have posted pictures of their partners and then thought better of it ;)

Yeah, but only because Nintendo were forced to step in to prevent Mario being made into a gay character and Peach being turned into an insufferable mary sue girl-boss (she still is a little bit but not in a way that diminishes the male characters, which is why the far-left clowns in the media are shrieking over it) and forcing the studio to rewrite a lot of the script. As a result, the movie is not woke, and is well on track to take over $1 billion at the box office, in sharp contrast to the increasingly large crop of politically-motivated movies that push a far left agenda, most of which are currently tanking at the box office. It's not often that you're going to see me praising Nintendo, but credit where it's due.

The woke agenda is dying, and the pendulum of public opinion is swinging back. It's going to take a bit of time, but the evidence that it's happening is everywhere now that the normies who don't pay much attention to social media are starting to notice.

Get woke, go broke. Without fail, every time.

I would assume that any complaint would be lodged with the original site where the pic appeared. I know this will shock some people here but CF is an obscure site in the grand scheme of things.

BUD is up 9.15 % for the year to date vs 8.11% for the S&P 500. So they are hardly going broke.

I didn't drink Bud before, don't drink it now and won't drink it in the future. Not because one of the literally hundreds of people they partner with is transgender, but because it sucks. I don't understand the whole fuss.

And, DP, if you are a lesbian as you claim (which I wonder about) then you are WOKE, WOKE, WOKE. Sorry but that is a simple fact.

I agree Budweiser sucks. I’m a blue moon guy, reminds me of the quote from waterboy water sucks Gatorade is better lol

Probably people who are Gay, Lesbian, or just like to have sex with the same gender, probably don't want to have their amusement politicised.
They only got the right to enjoy their amusement without risking loss of career and even jail time or the death penalty (Oscar Wilde, Alan Turing, people in many countries today) because some woke people fought for that right.

The origin of "woke" - it goes back to a recording (now in The Smithsonian) of Leadbelly (Huddie Leadbetter) singing and talking about his song protesting the false conviction of 9 Black teenagers for allegedly raping white women - the word comes right at the end -

“I made this little song about down there,” Lead Belly says. “So I advise everybody, be a little careful — best stay woke, keep their eyes open.”

There's more about the way the word's been used in this blog:

Alan Turing had decided himself for his health treatment, so he was silly not gay.

I heared budwoker, aeh Budweiser, already learned that.
Yeah Bud Light is losing big time - sales down over 30% across the board and losing $6 billion (with a B) off their stock valuation in the space of three days - it's recovered a bit now but still way below where it was trading a couple of weeks ago. The slight uplift in the stock is apparently down to bottom feeders in the stock market buying up stock when the value drops, so it remains to be seen how it shakes out over time, but whichever way it goes, they've taken a massive hit, second only to the $8 billion that Gillette lost a few years ago.

I don't know when attacking/insulting your target consumer became an acceptable marketing tactic, but all the companies doing this (I'm looking at you Disney!) are taking huge damage from it, and now that all the venture capital that's been propping up the losses incurred by these ill-advised, anti-customer tactics for years is starting to run out, we can expect to see some very high level casualties over the next couple of months and years...

Turing was actually given the choice - undergo the treatment or face a VERY long prison sentence...

The UK government issued a public apology to him for the treatment a few years ago, for all the good that did...

Alan Turing had decided himself for his health treatment, so he was silly not gay.

From Wiki, concerning his trial for 'gross indecency' in 1952: Turing was convicted and given a choice between imprisonment and probation. His probation would be conditional on his agreement to undergo hormonal physical changes designed to reduce libido, known as "chemical castration".[149] He accepted the option of injections of what was then called stilboestrol (now known as diethylstilbestrol or DES), a synthetic oestrogen; this feminization of his body was continued for the course of one year. The treatment rendered Turing impotent and caused breast tissue to form,[150] fulfilling in the literal sense Turing's prediction that "no doubt I shall emerge from it all a different man, but quite who I've not found out".

No i'm not woke. Never will be. I don't go in for all that commie bullshit. I'm my own woman and live by my own rules and I never apologise for that!
