One day too late, but better late than never...

February 27, 1991: BDSM porn legend Ashley Lane was born, meaning she turned 30 yesterday!

If you are a fan of her, I started a thread a while ago: Ashley Lane Fanclub

1964, On this day Muhammad Ali defeats Sonny Liston for the heavyweight boxing championship of the world.
I remember listening on the radio. All the people in the know knew Liston would handle Cassius Clay (as he was then known) easily. Show what they know.

This is the 117th anniversary of the birth of Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) whose work was an endless source of Joy in my childhood (I still love to eat green eggs and ham!).

Six of his books have just been withdrawn by Seuss Enterprises for racial slurs contained within (see fourth article on this link):

Are they going to hold public burnings of his books.
Acknowledge the facts and move on, learn from it but don't try to rewrite it or hide it!

Meant to post this on February 28th, on that day in 1983, almost 106 million Americans tuned in to watch the final episode of M*A*S*H.

Now that is a prime example of shameless promotion. (I'll have to remember it.)

Again, history viewed through current eyes...

I am old enough to remember being told as a child of the evil Nazis burning books they didn't like!
Glad to see how much more civilized we are now!:(
Heinrich Heine's line from the play "Almansor" from a century before Hitler was amazingly prescient (and still worth hearing!) -
“Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen" Where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people.”

Sometimes it has to be done the other way around, though -- the Allies had to kill quite a lot of Germans before they could get on with incinerating Mein Kampf in peace.

How this can end is well known and everyone should turn against such barbarism.

Bodley's Librarian has recently published a very good and timely book,

Two hundred years ago today, on the evening of 6 March 1821, Alexander Ypsilantis and his band of followers crossed the Prut to begin an uprising against the Ottoman Empire. His revolt pretty much failed -- but it became the start of the Greek War for Independence.

Reminding me that today fifty years ago, on March 8th 1971, the 'Fight of the Century' took place in Madison Square Garden, New York, between Ali and Joe Frazier. After the full fifteen rounds, Frazier was declared winner (having almost grounded Ali with the 'Knock of the Century' in round 15).
