It was pink but black and white doesn't show that...

...No, I don't know that for a fact, Ulrika...
Hence, my reference to pastel. ;)

...Yes, I know it could be Robins egg blue, too! Thanks Ulrika.

I was just idly surfing through the prehistoric Eurovision stuff on YouTube,
feeling mildly cynical and superior about the silliness of it all,
I clicked on that one, and as her voice came in I nearly jumped out of my chair,
it just sent a thrill right through me - straordinario davvero!

The recording is from the audiotape (from radio) of the original Eurovision performance,
the images from all that survives - a few clips of her repeating the song after she'd won
(would there have been videotape? or just a cinecamera pointing at a tv screen?)

If you can stomach
I'm just tickled it says 'high quality' -
God save me from the 'low quality' version

.have the Dutch ever won?
four times, according to Wiki -
1957, 1959, 1969,1975
I think they nearly won this year (2014) - came 2nd?

Nice legs! Same greece columns.
but ghastly costume

I was lucky enough to see her live once...
Just hearing her voice knocks me to my knees.
Thank
yes, that has to be one of the all-time greatest,

Yep, after I posted Waterloo I noted the disparity between the HQ claim and the actual ..... truth in advertising? Oh well.

I like it, though her fidgetty movements are a bit irritating -
the hair-do's amazing :D

Another nice song that seems to crop up regularly in 1960s French nostalgia collections:

I remember when I first heard it,
the boy who introduced me to it,
and what we were doing while it played... ;)

Not quite so steamy, but one that gets me in the guts

Mina canta: 'Il cielo in una stanza' di Gino Paoli: 1960.
Mina sings: 'The sky in a room' Gino Paoli: 1960.

For Hans!

Quando sei qui con me
questa stanza non ha più pareti
ma alberi, alberi infiniti.

Quando sei qui vicino a me
questo soffitto viola
no, non esiste più...
Io vedo il cielo sopra noi

che restiamo qui, abbandonati
come se, se non ci fosse più
niente, più niente al mondo.

Suona un'armonica:
mi sembra un organo
che vibra per te e per me
su nell'immensità del cielo

When you're here with me
this room has no walls,
but trees, infinite trees.

When you're here with me
this purple ceiling
no, it's no longer there...
I see the sky above us

Let's stay here, abandoned,
as if, as if there were nothing,
nothing , no more in the world.

A harmonica sounds
to me like an organ
that vibrates through you and me
in the immensity of the sky.
