Now This Just Isn't Funny

Even some Brits have trouble with it:
A decent plot summary on Wiki
"Don't mention the war!”

This thread might be incomplete without the German translation for German TV stations, ...

... which was partly made by Rainer Brandt, one of the most famous actors who also worked very successfully as one of many of the German TV translators & synchronizing speakers of British and US-American TV comedies. He sometimes invented funny German words for synchronizing the English lip motions from comedies into perfect German and some TV serials of comedies were in Germany - you may not believe it, but it is true - much more successful than in the original versions because of the German translations, e.g. this one:

!

You can still see it sometimes on German TV stations and they are still successful because of some jokes which became part of common saying in German.

Tony Curtis spoke relatively well German because one of his wives was German and he said if someone like Rainer Brandt had made the dialogues in English, this serial would have been a worldwide success.

Just some examples from the German translations of "The Persuaders", which show how unusual Rainer Brandt must have been thinking in different languages, making suggestive or ambiguous sentences.

In one scene, Tony Curtis in his role as an American multi-millionnaire, gets out of his private Learjet at the airport of Cannes on the French Côte d'Azur and says in German:
"Oh wunderbares Cannes !
(spoken like an uneducated German would speak all letters in this word: Kan-n-es and then: )
Kann es Tag sein, kann es Nacht sein, Hauptsache, man kann es!"

The effect for most German audiences was a disbelieving laughter because of this playing with words in 3 different languages which meant:

"Oh wonderful Cannes! Can it be night, can it be day, the most important thing is that one can do it!"

On YouTube, you can find many scenes with the funniest translation examples from "Die Zwei" = "The Persuaders" like this one with Terry-Thomas in a guest-role, about whom Roger Moore says in German: "He is my uncle Archibald which is a difficult person for my family because he always got stuck in the most unbelievable and embarrassing situations!"
Tony Curtis replies in German: "Oh, that's why your family calls him by his lovely nickname 'Arschie'!?"

And some more examples here like:
"This man looks somehow dead!?"
"He is really dead ... his pensioner's scheme will have a big celebration party!"
Et cetera in "Der Lord ist fort" = "The Lord is gone" :

Looks like a remake of the classic porno film, "Barb does Manhatten."

Where can I get this "ForgetItAll" for our Hotel guests?
We recently had a couple of elderly guests in our hotel who really complained about absolutely everything, but their most unusual complaint was the look out of their window: About 50 meters from their window is a new apartment block and they complained about being able to look into a sleeping room of an apartment over there!
1. How did they know that this was a sleeping room over there?
2. Did they have a telescope in order to look there?
3. Why did they even complain about that? Disappointment about this look?
:rolleyes::facepalm::eek:

A few to cheer us in these troubled times. The POTUS is doing his own medical treatment.
(Domestos is a UK brand of toilet cleaner, hope it has intended (or not) effect.)

I once was in a school class with a schoolboy who simply could never remember the correct names - or he was the born clown for names.
In history of ancient Greece, the teacher asked the name of the most famous Athenian politician with impressive speeches against the Makedonian kings Philipp and Alexander.
Answer: "Domestos!"
"No! Nooo! It was:"

In European literature, another teacher asked the same boy: "Do you remember from Miguel de Cervantes' famous book "Don Quixote", which was the name of the woman he admired the most?" (Correct would have been: "Dulcinea del Toboso"!)
Answer: "Rosinante!"
"No! Nooo! That was his horse!"

By the way: Don't you have the impression that our world is becoming more and more absurd?
Last night, I was not working, so I had time to switch through all possible TV channels in Germany and almost everywhere, I saw this fly, ...

Ashampoo_Snap_2020.10.08_07h32m39s_001_.jpg

... which is probably now the most famous fly on Earth because it stayed there for 2 minutes and 3 seconds - at least according to all international "professional fly researchers" .
On the one hand, it is nice to read all the comments but on the other hand we could have to solve more important problems than this fly, couldn't we?
I have read many comments who might have sent this fly (the "Lord of the Flies"?) and what message this fly might have tried to whisper from this Lord in vain, for example:
"Trust and repeat our words because we are your only black friends!"
:facepalm::eek:
(OK, it is a bit funny, isn't it???)

A classic scene, "wilderbeest sweeping majestically across the plain". Awful though he is, sometimes you have to sympathise with Basil. I mean, who hasn't been tempted at times to take their frustration out on the nearest inanimate object?

The car-thrashing scene was filmed just near where I grew up (north west London suburbs) and we had friends who lived in Mentmore Close. I am pretty sure this was the only event of any interest that happened there.
