Following a fairly sharp exchange about politics on one of our threads, it seems timely to remind members of our 'No politics' rule, and to reflect upon why it is needed.

Politics in general causes significant polarisation of opinion. At times like the present, with war raging in Ukraine, that polarisation is significantly increased by emotions such as fury, rage, and injustice. War by its nature also brings an enhanced sense of the rightness of 'our' side (whichever side that is).

However, it must be borne in mind that, although the forum language is English, our membership is international. What draws us together is not politics, but enjoyment of the topics discussed in our wide variety of threads, and members from across the international and political spectrums should be able to feel comfortable here. It is a place of fantasy where we can and should leave the ugly, tragic, and unjust real world outside.

There are a huge number of places on the internet where we can express our feelings about politics, including the events in Ukraine. Here on the Crux forums we can only take the position that posts on the subject will be deleted. The fact that Crux Forums staff act to enforce the rule does not mean we have no feelings or opinions about what is going on in the world, we certainly do, but we have to act impartially in this regard.
