Are those "thousand yard stare" eyes a prop too, Rotrex? I first encountered the term in a book of WWII art.

Often forgotten, but carrying the Cross or the patibulum is a necessary forestep before the crucifixion stricto sensu.
Because the slave must suffer as soon as is under the authority of the executioner.

So, the patibulum must be 30 or 40 kg weight, and the walk at least 300 m. And at every collapse, the slave must be harshly whipped to deter her or him to make pause.

Moreover, already exhausted by the walk with patibulum, the crux session will be more unbearable !

a walk could be through some brambles and nettles too. Even if we don't nail the slave, blood could be provided by whipping, brambles, sharp gravel under the feet....

Inflict the more suffering as possible, but without permanent damage of course.

A good crucifixion session must end with tears and loud screams from the slave asking mercy.

And after the session, a reward like penis masturbation by a naked woman or intercourse with a skilled man for a girl....
