3. Yesterday evening, a mad "Danish archer" killed 5 Nowegians near Oslo by arrows and the police in Norway still investigates if this mad archer was simply crazy or a terrorist!

Confirmed as terrorism now - the guy had converted to islam (fucking moron), was known to the police, and on a watch list. Strange isn't it that whenever one of these losers commits a terror attack, they're always known to the police and on a watch list yet nothing ever gets done to stop them :(

I am wondering sometimes why I am not really wondering any more about the craziest crimes often committed by religious fanatics and often belonging to one extreme interpretation of religion in which you can automatically get into heaven by being killed when you kill "the evil" persons before.

OK, we have to be careful with generalizations because I once read that the idea of "suicide attacks on evil persons" for coming immediately into their special kind of heaven is said to have been invented around 1968 by political extremists who are almost forgotten today, using their silly followers in another religion for their political targets and you usually would not guess why and in which country: By the fanatics of the "Tamil Tigers" in Sri Lanka !

On the other hand, this terrible idea is now so common in other parts of the world with religious "leaders" who love the idea of "martyrdom" (of their followers - and only them! ) for their religion.
Unfortunately, these leaders there with such ideas "strangely" never lead by their own example as long as they find enough silly others for "martyrdom".

2. The German singer "Nena" who in 1984 had mentioned Captain Kirk in her worldwide successful song "99 Luftballons" / "99 Red Balloons" ...
I prefer the original version in German (army time memories).

Bow and arrows? In Norway? Viking warriors had in common with muslim warriors, that if they die in combat, their souls will be rewarded in afterlife with a crowd of pretty virgins.

Taking the lives of unarmed individuals using a ranged weapon is hardly what I would describe as a combat situation, rather the actions of an abject coward

Especially for you, Loxuru (and Captain Kirk at minute 1:50) :

Mhm, as far as I know, there are "dissensions" about the "commons" between Vikings and Muslim Martyrs.
For example, the Vikings who died in combat came to "Walhalla" (= German version) and there was then a big banquet / feast together with the appropriate Gods. Orgies are not mentioned explicitly because the next day, they could do again what the liked the best: Fighting without dying and in the evening after the nice fight, they had again a nice banquet with the Gods. In some "old lores", the many women between the fights could have been a bit "exhausting" for these "heros", I have heard.

Additionally, there is in Germany one of the most sophisticated comedians - Dieter Nuhr - who once wanted to become teacher but he earned much more money with his intelligent stage appearances and here he quotes Islamic scholars who are of the opinion that the story with the 72 virgins is a mistake in translations, because in the beginning, the warriors of Mohammed / Muhammad were "desert dwellers" and in the first translations, the 72 virgins could easily also have been a reward in the shape of figs, oranges and / or pomegrantates in a fruit basket which must have seemed for the desert warriors like a part of paradise.

Dieter Nuhr here starts with the explanation why women were not allowed to drive an auto / car in Saudi-Arabia - just because these cars - not even "Bobbycars" - were ever mentioned yet in the Quran.
On the other hand, he says, there might also have been such mistakes in translations from the first Quran after Mohammed which are not so important for us in the Western world but very much for the poor concerned martyrs, it could be a very big disappointment for them when they blow themselves up and get only a fruit basket in their reward system, which was exaggerated by their leaders especially for them:

Or as a great human philosopher once said: "It's so sad ... "

Surprize. surprize, No virgins in heaven. God wouldn't punnish innocent virgins by giving them to smelly, ugly murderers.
The Onion's immediate post-9/11 take on the virgins in heaven thing set the number at 67.

I knew it from the beginning they would end up in hell.
They should have offered all the people on these planes (and in the buildings they hit) to convert to islam first, before they would die. So that they also could die as martyrs, and enjoy the blessings of heaven.
Neglecting that procedure, has made the terrorists murderers, not martyrs, so they were sent to hell.

Works for me.

Some months ago, I had a small-talk with the head chef in the kitchen of "my" hotel and I was surprised to hear that he was a science-fiction-fan, too.
He also had in our conversation an interesting opinion about intelligent life forms in outer space:

- "When you take into account the unimaginable and uncountable number of stars alone in our galaxy and how many of them might have planets like our one, there must be intelligent life outside of our planet ... most probably some very, very intelligent life-forms!"
- "OK, and why 'very, very'?"
- "When you take into account the age of stars and how young our sun seems to be, the most intelligent life-forms in outer space must already have noticed our existence.
They should know by now that we exist, they probably have already observed us and they must be 'very, very' intelligent because they obviously don't want any contact and they don't want anything to do with us!"
- "Hrm ... okaaaay, maybeee."

Maybe, our head chef was absolutely right and when I heard yesterday evening the TV news in Germany (!) from Great Britain, I am really afraid, we human beings will not survive the next 500 years because we seem to be unable to get rid of our religious madness or any of our aggressions:

I am also a bit afraid, our future in any kind of politics, any celebrations or human mass meetings will look similar to these pictures:

I-hate-crowds_ (neue Groesse).jpg Der Weihnachtsmann kommt 1 (neue Groesse).jpg

And this is really very sad ...

There are new reports in German scientific newspapers about one of the most unusual "signals" nicely named "ASKAP J173608.2-321635" from a region near the center of our galaxy based on this scientific survey:

Radiowaves which seem to be completely irregular - once over weeks, then only one day - but also in connection with polarized light emissions "swinging" in one direction but also "rotating" over time with a brightness ranging from 1 or 2 up to a brightness multiplied with the factor 100. (???)

Astronomers say, this probably does not look like something any human has ever seen before:

My guess would be a pulsar or even a black hole (we know there's at least a couple of black holes near the galactic centre) with other bodies (large planets and/or secondary stars orbiting at high speed, with the seemingly random variations in the signal maybe being caused by occlusion as these other bodies pass in front of the signal source. Multiple bodies in orbit might explain the apparently random variations due to occasional alignments or something.

The circular polarisation is not something that I can explain (I'm not a scientist) but I'm reliably informed by people who know about this stuff that a rapidly rotating black hole or neutron star might cause all kinds of polarisations to occur due not obly to rotation but also the gravitational effects.

Interesting stuff but since the majority of my scientific knowledge comes from watching Star Trek (back in the days when they actually had science advisors on the writing staff), that's about the best I can do :)

Klingon communication about William Shatner's recent space flight, probably.:hydrogen:

Ermmm...actually....NASA Scientists have successfully translated the radio waves, emnating from deep space....
For obvious reasons, they decided not to release,a transcript of the communication....
Luckily,(or not) I managed to upload part of it....

There is a book of

I once read parts of it ...

... in the abridged German version of the US-made "Reader's Digest".

In this book he describes how the dictatorship in Argentina came into power, how he was kidnapped because of being editor during the Argentinian dictatorship, tortured and finally released after the USA built up pressure against the Argentinian government.
He mentioned that prisoners like he were sometimes poured with cold water and when they were still wearing clothes becoming wet, the wet torture by electricity is unimaginably worse than without clothes.
Well yes but in this case it's real torture for the sake of real political gain. I mean these people were nasty in the purest sense of the word and needed to be seen as such. Do we think the torturers enjoyed their work erotically? Holy fuck there's some twisted people on this planet! However, in the media, where the point is to depict only the horror of torture but at the same titillate the audience for commercial reasons, kit off electro torture is the way to go.

In fact kit off anything is the way to go. That's why heroines always fight in skimpy little costumes, the stupid tarts! I would, but that's because the erotic power in my fantasy would be in the idea that my flimsy protection might be readily torn off, leaving me exposed and vulnerable. Wrestle me to the floor and overwhelm my girly weakness with your relentless masculine onslaught please. Oooooh lovely!

Long ago I started a Boris Vallejo thread on the Forums - it attracted quite a nice collection of his works,
you might care to 'bump' it back to life:
John Norman came up in conversation recently because I was writing about the submissive positions I intended to present myself in. "A bit like in the Gorean Chronicles?" my correspondent asked. I'd never heard of that so I googled it. I was fascinated by how bad the reviews of the books were. The consensus was that by grinding out a new book each year, for twenty five years, Norman had achieved the same collectibility tobacco companies used to with cigarette cards. People sought out the books and Gor had become inextricably linked with kinky sex. Really? Sounds good? Well, intrigued, I bought one of the cheaper, less collectable editions on Ebay, "The Captive of Gor" whose main character, Elinor Brinton is kidnapped on Earth, taken to Gor and gets relentlessly tied up for 366 pages.

Was it a good read then Kate? Was it fuck! I'm incredulous that anything so badly written could achieve the cult status it has and I'm convinced it's a joke. Well done John Norman? I bet he's laughing his head off.

But, by the end of the book I was getting used to the irritating repetition, the freaky punctuation and El-in-or's ridiculous mood swings and I have to admit I might buy another book just to see if they're all the same. That is if I can hide it from my BF who asked "What are you reading that shit for?" What could I say, "Kinky sex"?

I know what Kajira is now though.

Sometimes, the internet shows you science-fiction-movie scenes which were obviously cut away because of some problems with common taste.
Anyway, you are asking yourself, what might have been the movie part you were probably missing:

What might have been the purpose of this part of the clone army?

Or why did we never hear of some special satisfying program properties of C-3PO ?

I've written a funny story about sex with a robot. Wanna read it?

As far as I understand your opinion (I am German, you know, and I do not understand every word without dictionary or translator, e.g. "skimpy", "tarts", "kit off" ??? ;) ), your opinion honors you, but in wars - and this in Argentina was "a secret undeclared war against so-called 'subversive' parts of the own population" even in the words of their own government - people can become even more "degenerate" than we all believe in our usually very peaceful democracies.
In Timerman's words, Argentina between 1976 and 1983 was a militarily governed nation with a parallel world of madness with several military secret services partly working against each other and the normal police somewhere in between. I once really studied political science and Argentina was an example how fast and unbelievable a "not stable democray" can turn into a crazy dictatorship. I remember parts of Timerman's book which I will quote here from my memory just to show the madness in the development there.

Between 1970 and 1976, there were really street fights between left- and right-wing extremists and terrorists in some Argentinian cities, bank robberies and kidnappings from both sides and Timerman as a brave neutral newspaper-publisher once received on the same day two letters - one from a left wing and one from a right wing extremist organization who told him both he was sentenced to death for being on the wrong side in the nations fight for freedom! He published both with the cynical remark he will be interested who will claim his death first. Then the military made a "Coup d'état" and because they were "rather" right-winged themselves, they hunted the left-wing extremists in particular with all their means.

At first, there was silence and "peace" with the military openly on the streets and most of the Argentinians were at first glad that the street wars were over because one half of the "war participients" suddenly disappeared - but it was certainly the silence and peace of a cemetery because so many persons suddenly disappeared and Timerman had a special trick how to find out where some persons could be:
The secret services of Argentinian army, marine and air force did not work together and he simply claimed in his newspaper that Mr or Mrs X was abducted by the marine. The secret service of the marine felt insulted of such a public claim and started its own research and after 24 hours, Timerman received an anonymous call or letter that Mr X was abducted by the air force and was most probably arrested in a secret prison of the air force!
Certainly, he could not do this too often and this "trick" once was the reason for his own abduction and torture because the secret service who kidnapped him was interested in the informations of him how he knew that this or that secret service had abducted Mr or Mrs X.
Concerning the secret prison where he was held, he described absolutely unbelievable conditions of human madness in a militarized society of madness.
For example: One female student was tortured there and after the soldiers and guards came to the conclusion that she was innocent of all what other tortured prisoners had told them about her but their guards now knowing everything about her family, they let her go and "hired" instead her jobless father as professional electrician who was then responsible for maintenance and repair of the electrical machines which were used there to torture other prisoners.

He was then a kind of hostage for his family instead of his daughter but this way, he even became a part of the torture machinery.

Timerman also described examples of tortured young beautiful women of whom he could hear their cries at night in his cell that they never were "city guerilleras", "communists" or "socialists" but he was of the opinion that they were sometimes only tortured by electric shocks without leaving any traces on their bodies until they gave up every hope and mental resistance against their torturerers (following quotation by Timerman: ) "... until they were accessible to all the guards' sexual desires."

In such a world of a dictatorship gone mad, the boundaries are fluid between the political goals of the new rulers and the crimes and / or secret sexual desires of their henchmen.
Even after the end of the dictatorship, the torturers sometimes were gangs on their own and one example was so incredible that there was this movie made of it:

Timerman probably only survived because he was a relatively famous publisher, sometimes telling the torturerers exactly what they wanted to hear because speculating for surviving long enough for a "show trial" like in Stalin's Soviet Union. Indeed, one Argentinian officer once said to him, his statements will be interesting for the process against the "communist Jews" in Argentina - by the way: partly absolutely crazy statements like "Israel will invade Patagonia as soon as possible"! (Sounds for me similar crazy as a statement I once heard from a historical "show trial" in Stalin's Soviet Union in which one Russian nuclear physicist confirmed after his torture to have sold the plans for an H-bomb to the USA! This only shows how mad these dictatorial regimes sometimes can become on their hunt for imaginary enemies which they need desparately to keep up their measures of suppression in order to stay in power. When there were no more living enemies for this crazy military Junta in Argentina, they tried to conquer the Falkland Islands which led to the war with Great Britain in 1982 and 1983 to their fall in Argentina in the end - but probably more than 40.000 Argentinians disappeared until then and never came back!)
And because Timerman also had connections to the USA and Israel, he probably had more influential friends abroad than he himself had thought.

We all can only be happy that probably most of us never had and hopefully never will have to experience such a horror of an unstable democracy turned into a such a temporary dictatorship with secret services out of any control!
