@malins and Anna are crucified. The crosses are arranged such that one woman is suffering behind the other.
Malin is in greater pain, as, unlike Anna, she was scourged before being nailed to the cross.
Between spams of agony, Anna cries out to her fellow sufferer,
"Forgive me, Malin - I seduced the senator but I was too cowardly to give him the poison. Out of your love for me you dropped the potion in his wine. Forgive me!"
