Yes, it probably is! And thanks for the suggestion, but no, it was a line drawing, no colour and further away. There was something distinctive about it (and I thought I had bookmarked it, but I haven't). I actually commented about it, so it shouldn't be too hard for me to find!

I think it is best demonstrated when the victim (particularly a woman) faces the cross. Ladies so horribly unfortunate as to be crucified in this position are forced to embrace the cross like a lover. I’ve seen some claims (without any evidence) that women were crucified facing the cross to lessen the shame for them and/or their families. It seems patently ridiculous; I can’t imagine anything more shameful than my ass hanging out for the crowd while I dry-hump a wooden post.

Was it this one? I believe the artist signs his work AW, and also believe mp5stab did the colored version.

I think my misremembering of a drawing that I really liked and looked at numerous times is a really good example of just how reliable I would be as an eyewitness to an event!

With the bottom two it seems like she was whipped while facing the cross. Facing the cross and using the whip could create a new and interesting dance. It would also allow the executioner how a woman facing the cross moves

The 1st one has an interesting look on her face as though she is looking into the beyond. The 2nd one is what I really like because of the combination of the sweat and dirty loincloth showing how much pain and torture she must have gone through. There are a couple others with sweat and dirt show the trials and tribulations of going through crucifixion.
