So the mystery is not “whodunnit?” but “whered’theystashit?”.. I mean Penny and Jasmine clearly pinched the purse and hid it somewhere.. my guess is up the chimney. And that’s not a euphemism.
If one of the girls could hide a whole purse up "her chimney" , she would be slightly too loose for her age.

But let's think. Let's try at least. Since our thiefs have bin in the toilets, in the cubicles and elsewhere after their coup, they could have hidden the purse anywhere. So for me is not yet the question "where is the purse" the main thing, but "what could convict them of the lie" . If you can prove, that the girls lied, than you can whip the hiding place out of them.
So the question is: How to prove that the two girls lied ?
Is it possible to hear from the cubicles what's been spoken in the toilets ?

My brain aches even more .... :nusenuse:

Exactly! Where is that purse? There is a clue in there. The cane is being raised as I speak! Oh nooooo!

The purse is in the classroom....but where?
Well that’s blown my two pet theories out of the water. I was cultivating the hypothesis that the theft never took place, the whole fake “incident” was cooked up between Miss Carter and the Cheshire Cat girls (in return for fags and booze probably). The motive? To cause a scene which would discredit Miss Roberts and cause her to be demoted to caretaker’s assistant, where she would suffer the full indignities of Mr. Gropesworth’s lewd behaviour. The problem there is Tracy: she would have to be part of the plot somehow, unlikely since she is new.

My other pet theory was that the purse was hidden in the toilets.. possibly stalled in plastic and stashed in one of the cisterns.

but if it’s in the classroom as you say... I would recommend strip-searching Penny and Jasmine IMMEDIATELY . Make it a full cavity search just to be sure.

It's a good job Tracy is on the ball! She will reveal all today. When Tracy lived at home with her mum they would often watch murder mysteries together but Tracy would drive her mum barmy because she had a very annoying habit of saying who'd done it, why and how miles before the end. She is a very street wise kid and knows all the tricks.

Due to the cigarette smoke yes, but I wonder why is only one bag of this two girls searched ?
Good question. Tracy figured the correct bag because she is a quick thinker. Here's a clue. Tracy said "It's in the bag" because at the time she didn't know which bag.

Nice idea. Couldn't we strip search the entire class, just to be sure that no other girls are involved ?
What if the two cats managed to put the purse back into the bag of the teacher ?
That’s very devious!! Presumably the cats are double-crossing miss Carter, ensuring her humiliation and demotion to the status of Mr.Gropesworth’s Sex slave assistant.

But the teacher ordered first to search Pen's bag. But Tracy wanted Jas's bag searched. May be she thought: Pen climbed up through the window, took the purse, threw it out the window to Jas, which hid it in her bag. But now it isn't in there ?

Apart from your last sentence you are correct.

Miss R. “Well I am going to search her bag!”

Some contraband material yes but..no purse

Pen climbed up through the window, took the purse, threw it out the window to Jas, which hid it in her bag. But now it isn't in there ?
“Apart from your last sentence you are correct”

...so...the purse IS in Jasmines bag, but Miss Roberts didn’t find it? Or pretended not to find it? I am missing something here...

So something happened after Tracy saying “it’s in the school bag” that let her know it was Jasmine’s bag, not Penny’s. The only thing it could be, is Miss Carter demanding to see Penny’s bag. That told Tracy the purse must be in Jasmine’s bag.
Conclusions:
1: Miss Carter is in on this somehow.
2: therefore the theft was staged.

Objections:
1: if Miss Carter (and niw Tracy) both know the purse is in Jasmine’s bag, why didn’t Miss Roberts find it? Is she in on it too? Or did the Cheshire cats swap bags?

I am not cut out to be a detective... I’m just off to play the violin and inject myself with laudanum..

Tracy simply looked back and very calmly said “The pencil case Miss.” Patricia thought “Wait a second! There were loads of loose pens and pencils and the pencil case did feel unusually heavy.” She opened it and took out Miss Carter’s purse. Smiles now disappeared. “She put me up to it Miss..honest!..I didn’t want to do it..” Penelope and Jasmine had to be separated and seated well apart at the front of the room.

“Well, I think that poor Lucy can get dressed now and retake her place. When those two have finished writing their statements I want to see them in my office immediately after school.” Patricia said trying hard not to sound triumphalist. “We must be on our way now.” And with that the touring party left the room.

Halfway down the corridor Tracy leapt up smashing her fist in the air. “We really screwed those f*****g bitches didn’t we miss?”

An expression to do with pigs’ ears and silk purses came into Pat Roberts’ mind.

Later that afternoon justice was rapidly catching up with Penelope and Jasmine. As part of their punishment they were to be spanked in every classroom. One of the deputy heads escorted them round and lectured the classes on the basic rules of the school before putting the girls over her knee. It was to be a long and painful tour of the school.

“Well I’m getting hungry so I think it’s time we headed for the dining hall.” Miss Roberts announced. Nobody in her party disagreed with that idea. Sausages, beans and plenty of chips. Red sauce for Debbie and brown for Tracy. After much small talk their mother announced that she really must get home now and was a little surprised that she actually felt that she might miss them. Now she was gone the twins could get down to the nitty gritty. Tracy inquired if Miss knew who her sleeping partner was likely to be. “Oh yes of course. That had slipped my mind. It will be Lucy Baxter. The girl you rescued. I’m sure she’ll be very grateful to you Tracy.” Now that was a prospect that Tracy found very pleasing but didn’t want to show too much pleasure at the idea in front of her sister. “I’m sure we’ll get along fine miss.” was her straight faced reply. Tracy had never told Debbie about her girly flings after their dad had left home but like her sister she had sought comfort in the arms and beds of other girls. And like Debbie there was absolutely no way that made her a lesbian!

To be contd.

EXPLANATION. Tracy had seen Pen climb out of the window and hand something to Jas so she guessed that Jas may have hung on to it hiding it in her school bag. A thief like Pen usually has a "mobile bank" like her look out. Tracy didn't know for certain so when asked by Miss Carter where it was she simply replied "In the school bag" and deliberately let Miss Carter choose. She chose Pen's bag to search first and Pen was quite happy with the idea. That told Tracy it was Jas's bag. When Jas complained about being treated like a thief then Tracy knew it was there. When the bag was emptied Tracy was still confident that she was right so like Poppy Montgomery in Unforgettable she simply went through the little video in her memory. She got to pens, pencils and the pencil case. So why weren't all those loose pens and pencils where they belonged in the pencil case?

Of course!! The damn pencil case! Why am I such an idiot? Don’t answer that...
So even Miss Carter is in the clear, since it was not her choice of bag that alerted Tracy, but Penny’s reaction to the choice!.
I guess that means that poor old Mr Gropesworth will have to do without an assistant this term; still, he’s a resourceful man, adept at removing pussy rings, for example.
Congratulations Tracy, I hope there will be more mysteries for you to solve. :ARMS1: :sherlock::enamorado:
