Yes, the hatching technique is impressive, but what really fascinates is all the detailing of the many, many things going on in that image! One of Monty’s best in my opinion.

This guy uses isometric perspective in a way that obviously reminds me of M.C. Escher (and this is clearly something more than a hint , hopefully an inspiration, my friend)

I agree. There are two types of artists. One just suggest a situation and leaves your imagination free to fill the gaps. The other, provides you with a wealth of details that make the exploration of the picture a completely different type of experience.
Sometimes the two types overlap.
