I think it is hidden in "usuall art", especially in religious art
all big painters of that time had some artifacts of this type, like Dore illustration for Hunchbak mentioned above

the garrote is a well known system for death penalty in the modern version with a metal blade or spike to break quickly the neck.
But in the original version, with a simple rope or similar, it's working just by strangulation being also a torture instrument with the possibility to take time and release the rope...

Nice artworks. I don’t recognise the artists.. I agree with you @wulf , it’s worth the effort of saying “artists unknown”, because it’s okay to not know, but it’s not okay to not care. :thumbsup:
