I actually called that a sedile rather than a cornu, because the point on its end is not really much of a horn. It's actually intended to discourage a girl from trying to push forward and try to find a more comfortable position to rest on that narrow edge. In my story, the main character Catherine, or cat, complained about the 4" x 4" that her master gave her for a sedile on her cross:

The sedile between my legs was a rough four-inch by four-inch piece of timber turned edge-up. It was too long by design for me to just push my hips forward and avoid it. Straddling it, having it pressed up between my legs was inevitable. I had no choice but to try to find a way to rest my weight on it when my legs gave out.

...Of course I tried to ride it side-saddle, tried to shift to one side or the other, catch it on the edge of my crotch somehow, anything I could do within the limited range of motion I had on the cross. That worked for about ten seconds, until I let myself ease further down, putting more of my weight on it, exploring the pain, my legs being forced apart by its width, and I got lulled into thinking that maybe this time it would be ok.

That was about the time that I would realize too late that I was sliding sideways toward the middle of my crotch, and before I could catch myself, that damned hard edge would bury itself in me. And I tried that enough times to know exactly what was going to happen to me, what I could neither prevent nor escape.​

This was based on some description of what this kind of sedile felt like that I got from a lady who had first-hand knowledge of it - some of the stuff I write I don't completely fabricate.

I didn't want to use a big honkin' 4" x 4" timber for a sedile, wanted something more elegant and cruel, but not the cornu I've used several times before. So I came up with the one you can see better in these renders:

Like the other sediles I've used before, there is only a thin edge for the girl to rest on, but the horizontal points along its base force her to spread her legs wider as she descends and open herself to it. The point on its tip forces her to sit back on the edge, and as Maia said in the story:

The sedile was curved to fit a woman’s anatomy, and I groaned as it fit itself into mine, wedging between my lips, spreading them apart, going in deep.​

In the scene I've illustrated, there are two slave girls crucified, Amara, an Aethiopian and Maia, a Celt. Amara is trying to rest on her sedile in the picture that Apostate posted:

She throws her head back and screams in pain as it presses up into her sensitive parts, while people stroll by, stop and watch for a moment and pass on, ignoring her suffering.

I grabbed a handful of the little slave girl’s hair and jerked her head up, pinning it back against the cross so I could have a look at her face, then I slid the end of my vitis up between the lips of her cunnus. There’s nothing like prodding a crucified man’s balls or a woman’s cunnus to get their attention if their mind is still there and the agony hasn’t driven them insane. If that’s not enough, then a good solid stroke down there will do it unless they’re too far gone.​

The vitis was a vine wood cane that Roman centurions carried as a badge of office. When I created this scene, I had understood that the vitis was similar to the swagger stick carried by British officers later, but I found out since that it was more like a walking stick. So the one shown here is too small, sorry. I've already revised that in some of the newer versions of these pictures.

A lot of crux art has the victim almost "floating" on the cross with little indication of the strain and stretching that would be actually present on the shoulders and arms. These images show the condemned' woman's arms and shoulders stretched most realistically. That's a big difference in your art.

Difficult to do when not a photo.

There was no holding back. Unknown to her the people who crucified her had laced her last meal with a laxative and by now she relief from her cramping bowels. She cinched her teeth in anger as the small crowd laughed at her voiding...
