No, I haven't. I'm judging, perhaps wrongly, by experience of India, obviously very different in many ways, but spending time away from cities and tourist trails, I've seen that sort of contrast between a very 'modern' world and much more ancient, traditional ways - some very admirable, some quite shocking.

Aha India, I see :) I have visited India several times myself.
