In Japan the early Edo period, in the 1610s, many Christians were suppressed and killed by the Edo Shogunate. Of course, women were no exception.

1636年、キリシタンは出島を除くすべての場所から追放されましたが、一部の宣教師は日本に残りましたが、江戸幕府と藩の役人によって捕らえられ、十字架につけられました.

Moderators note: In 1636, Christians were expelled from all places except Dejima, but some missionaries remained in Japan, but were captured by the Edo Shogunate and clan officials and were attached to the cross.
