Thanks! Don't think I've ever seen one of those! It's got three tiny black circular things at about the right locations for nail heads or nail holes, can't tell which. All it needs is 68 candles on it now!

Gordian III the boy emperor, mid third century AD. if you're looking for a nice affordable piece of Roman silver his coins are reasonably plentiful and his antoniniani are a nice big diameter in comparison to the denarii and quite decent quality silver. Roman coins declined after this period, in silver content and size.
