It's a horrifically spectacular way to kill someone, and of course very cruel to the horses to make them do something like that. But it relies on living things to make it work so it's not as controlled and reliable as a mechanical thing like a rack if you want to slowly torture someone to death.

Also it is extremly unhygienic ...
but with horses it is much more fun to use it as for queen Brunhilda execution..

In the case of Robert-François Damiens, quartered between 4 horses in 1757 for litghtly knifing King Louis XV, it took over 2 hours. Not a very quick death...

Might I suggest coating the business end of the Hitachi with 80 grit abrasive, and accomplish both goals at the same time.
