Snidely Whiplash Comics

Back in the Stone Age of the Internet, around the turn of the millennium, there was a website called the Whipping Scenes in Movies Database (WSIMD). Featured on that site were comics by an artist known as Snidely Whiplash. They are old-school, done in the style of 1950s comics, and focused on telling a story as much as the art. Snidely was known to be suffering from cancer and has not been heard from in many years, so, sadly, he may well no longer be among us.

Ralphus, who runs the GIMP has compiled quite a few of Snidely's comics there from various sources and I thought I would try posting one of them here to see how people like it. I chose, not surprisingly for those who know the stories I have been involved in writing, to start with one called, "The Plantation".

No, but in general old Snidely was much nicer than people here at CF. His stories usually don't end with the poor victim crucified, hung, garotted, etc., like here (except for mine and a few others). Mostly she takes her whipping and gets on with life...

I refrained from commenting because I could see you were posting a series and I thought I'd wait for a pause before saying anything.

You know I love a good story, and I'm happy to wade through pages of text, but let's face it, a lot of people aren't, and the more visual the better seems to be the order of the day. In a cartoon presentation, detail isn't everything, but consistency of look throughout, especially the identification of characters, is paramount.

These do achieve that, Windar, and there's plenty of sex and whipping, so I've been happily following you throughout a pleasant Sunday afternoon. So, thank you! If you post more I shall enjoy more!

Maybe I should class things up and call them "graphic novels" instead of comics.

The art is crude by todays standards but we all started somewhere. There are more than a few in the field that insist if it were not for Sci-fi and porn (BDSM in particular) computer graphics would be 10 years behind where it is now!

The story is good too so please continue...

There are those who believe that if not for porn, the World Wide Web would have remained in the world of academia and the military. Many of the early user groups that involved non-specialists were largely for trading porn.
