The Furies (Erinyes or Eumenides)

Reading about the Furies in my book “The Greek and Roman Myths – A Guide to the Ancient Stories” by Philip Matyszak .

“There were three Furies – Alecto, Tisiphone and Megaira. Though the playwright Aeschylus saw them as hideous snakey monsters , the Furies are generally depicted as serious young women in black mourning clothes, although when on a case they changed into short maiden dresses with knee-high hunting boots and armed themselves with whips.”

I wove this idea around the above imagining the furies have come back taunt a smug politician.

I engaged Gallows-Girl-Amy to do the artwork which has two versions of the Furies, also known to the Greeks as Erinyes or euphemistically as the Eumenides (the Kindly Ones) as they haunt those undeserving of the status they have gained.

One version shows the Erinyes as in modern-day attire and the who has offended the three girls since Alecto is Latvian, Tisiphone is Croatian and Megaira came from Tunisia. His chosen political stance would have had all three and their friends returned to their countries of origin, to face the life of grinding poverty and boredom from which they have struggled to escape.

The setting is a replica Greek temple situated in the basement cellars of “The Pillars of Hercules” public house in Greek Street, Soho, London.

The temple was recreated by an eccentric 18thC aristocrat known to his contempories as Ffornicting Ffilthy Ffortesque Ffrench the Ffoulest Ffukah in Ffinchley. (His private house was in the borough of Finchley it was just his play room in Greek Street).

Alecto has given him a gentle tap in the testicles, whilst holding her penis-shaped handle leather flogger.Tisiphone threatens him with her bull whip.Magaira has him in a choke-hold, she is armed with her cosh.

The former Lord Ffortesque Ffrench used to enjoy his mistresses (rumoured to be three in number) attending to his desires whilst clad as Ancient Greek maidens, disporting in his replica temple

The girls lured their mark to the temple, now restored to its former glory, with the promise that he would enjoy the same pleasures as those which used to delight his nefarious predecessor. Now it has all gone pear-shaped, at least for him if not for the three young ladies.“Prepare to suffer as you would have my friends and I suffer, oh right honourable Member of Parli-ament,” sneered Alecto the blonde avenger.

Ancient Greek-style dress version.

Here we see the three Kindly ones dressed in more authentic ancient Greek attire, they have now upped their game and made themselves these charming tunics and obtained the correct hunting boots from a local artisan cobbler. A local leather worker, who specialises in fetish gear, has made their studded whips.

This scene takes place in a wooded glade, where could this be, one of the London Parks or the Surrey hills, maybe Hurtwood, near Hombury-St
