Lots of really good answers here already. There's much to love about watching a guy sentenced to the cross. And while I've never been crucified, so I can only comment on what gets me going.
I think the anticipation of being crucified is high on the list. But like Aedile mentions, having the loincloth removed is a highlight for sure. I think something about being stripped fully and finally, whether right in front of the cross or before the long walk to the cross stipes, carries and undeniable element of "Oh, sh*t, this is really happening!". The first crucifixion of The Last Tempation is a good example of this.
Another highlight has too be when the first wrist is nailed. This is that first moment of what is to be your last moments on earth and when the pain and suffering truly begin (I'm not counting scourging of course). Up until the first nail, it's been mostly the horrible anticipation of what is about to happen. But when the first blow of the hammer falls and the nail goes through flesh and bone the anticipation has now become the poor guys new reality.
If I may digress and indulge myself - one of my favorite JO fantasies is that I"m already tied naked to the cross and not yet nailed. One of the soldiers decides to have a bit of fun. I thought of that “Last Temptation” scene as well. I’ve gone back and forth a few times on whether I find it more erotic to be stripped before nailing or after. In “The Last Temptation,” the condemned man’s loincloth is torn away at the same time as the executioners raise him up on the cross. I expect that was mostly for filming/full frontal nudity avoidance than anything else, but it was a nice final symbol of the man’s condemnation and disposal by society.
I think I’ve settled on “strip before nailing” for my personal fantasy, though. I like the idea of letting the feeling of nudity and exposure sink in, and then to be led to my waiting cross, naked and helpless to prevent Rome from putting me on display.
