...really though, I have been on sites that had a 'no politics' rule that the enforcement crept and things got ugly. I was always told never to discuss sex, religion, and politics if you want to stay friends. Since we discuss the first two it's probably best not to touch the third rail...

Maybe you can tweak your story a bit so it doesn't run the risk of 'politics'?
