Surviving Crucifixion

Go to CruxDreams.com
The thought has never occurred to me but has anyone ever imagined being rescued once the cross has been raised? Or for the executioners amongst us have you ever thought of 1 of your victims being rescued once their cross has been raised? Whether I am bound or nailed to the cross for me it is always fatal.
Oh, I could imagine a lot of scenarios where the crucifixion is non-fatal.
It might serve the improvement of the victim.
It might be a harvesting of agony and ecstacy for some ritual, perhaps repeated.
It might be an initiation, rite of passage, qualification of some kind.
It might be the whim of the torturer, wanting to see me give up all hope and accept my fate, deciding to release me to live only in the moment when I do.

Though if it's intended as an execution, and that's accepted, 'rescue' would be a disappointment...
So I'm not so much for "overwhelm the guards and take me down".

It has happened several times in my threads...

Case of 'lesser of two evils'? Actually, I'm not sure either, but I guess some of the excellent writers on here would have a lot of pleasure telling a tale which would allow us to find out...!

In my story "Faithful Sayings" that I wrote a long time ago where two girls were crucified by the Taliban in Kandahar, there was planning for a rescue that didn't happen in the end. The plan was to come in with attack helicopters and carpet the place with their miniguns while another helicopter hovered over the crucified girls, lowered cables with logging hooks on the ends and grabbed the top of the crosses, which they would have then uprooted and flown to safety before detaching the girls from them. Really risky idea and they cancelled it at the last minute.

Of course Josephus wrote about the three acquaintances of his that he asked to have taken down from their crosses. One of those survived. He never actually said what sex those victims were...

Adding my two cents, for what they are worth. First of all "Faithful Sayings" was brilliant. i was thoroughly soaked reading it.

Today, with medicine what it is, a nailed victim certainly can recover. In Roman times however, i believe it was said that once the nails go in, the victim is already dying, and would do so even if taken from the cross alive.

Thanks! Having a girl tell me she got thoroughly soaked from something I wrote is high praise indeed! Been a long time since I wrote that. For what it's worth, a fellow crux member who was a military doctor in Kandahar at the time wrote me to ask how I was able to describe things there so accurately. That's what diligent research gets you. I've never been there, although I have been within a couple of hundred miles of it.

I have read that about a crucifixion victim beginning to die from the moment she's nailed to the cross. It's really all about fatigue; Seneca, who had witnessed many crucifixions, described it as wringing the life out of a victim drop by drop. It's a tediously slow process that begins with the nailing and only ends when the victim no longer has the strength to get another breath. In between is humiliation, excruciating agony and the relentless struggle to breathe.

Please do ... I'd love to see that again.:p
I could not find the original so I remade it...

The background story is Barb had been crucified almost two and a half days and Tree decides to show some mercy... Not by taking her down but by putting a bullet between her breasts. The 9MM hollow point slug would slit her sternum and tear her heart apart, sparing her hours of growing agony and delirium nailed to the cross waiting to die...
