Why don't you persuade the Captain to join you in a game of virtual-shuttle flying on the holodeck? By the time he has recovered his equilibrium, you'll be back at Earth, and in the capable hands of the Vice Admiral.

I thought I made clear that if that incident was ever mentioned again, your chances of commanding a starship were nil.

I propose a compromise.

You could be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and posted to the mining planet of Godawful 13. Or you can stay with the kind, capable Captain Wragg, say no more about association/disassociation, and enjoy the holodeck experiences and compassionate care of Dr Bobinder's medicine.

What do you most desire, Ensign? Promotion, or pleasure?

‘Not much of a choice there. I guess I will choose pleasure over hard labor on Godawful 13. Doesn’t sound like a pleasant place. Rumor has it that even lieutenants are flogged there routinely.

You must have read that in Wragg's rag. Our paper deals only in facts, right Moore? Professional reporting from journalists who would never make themselves part of the story, right? So if you want to report on the goings on on Godawful 13, you will have to go there yourself.
