It has a great many names, though Ramsons or Ramps (Old English hramsa) are/ were the most general (though nowadays Wild Garlic),
Others include Brandy Bottles, Devil's Garlic, Gipsy's Gibbles, Snake's Food, Stinking Jenny, etc. Onion Stinkers is from Somerset.
Allium tricoccum (sounds dirty doesn't it?) is the North American version. They are called "ramps" and are very much in vogue in expensive restaurants in New York (now serving take out and delivery only). People go out in the woods to harvest them in April/May both for home use and to sell at markets.

Good news: The German Drug Firm CureVac has announced that they probably in the fall can deliver a Corona-vaccine.

Bad news: At a conference Trump has held in early march, he met the chief executive of CureVac and tried to buy the firm (16,6 million Euro yearly sales) and the vaccine exclusively for use in the USA. He offered 1 billion dollars.

The German Secretary of Commerce, Peter Altmaier commented that offer with the statement:"Germany is not for sale."
CureVac has meanwhile rejected the offer. The chief executive is now working for a american Drug Firm.
Now, I don´t think that it matters where in the world a vaccine is developed, only that it is developed. But what on earth is Trump thinking if he not only says "America first", but "America only"?

Before anyone says "fake news" - after several German federal minister confirmed that news, I believe it.

In the 1970s the far end of my garden was infested with the stuff and it was Hell`s own job to get it under control. Ironic.

In Italy, testing on 350 ill volunteers with a substance that is used for rheumatism has been authorized. This seems to have given good results. Of course, all research is available to the international community. I hope that the news about Trump is a fake because if it were true it would prove what I always thought of him: THAT HE IS A GREAT COCK HEAD!

BERLIN — A German company working on a potential vaccine for the new coronavirus denied reports Monday that the U.S. government was angling to acquire it, while German officials sought to ease tensions fueled by the story by insisting the firm would stay in the country.
The affair became public in a story of the German newspaper "Welt am Sonntag". Asked by newspersons, Secretary of State, Heiko Maas, gave following statement:

Now it seems that either U.S. government or the German government isn´t telling the truth...

Sorry if I look stubborn on this topic, but I am really pissed off.

I appreciate your feelings.
But the AP story quotes the company people who were at the meeting as saying a buyout was never mentioned. They were there. The German government officials were not present according to what I 've seen. They said nothing, until the newspaper quoted unnamed government sources on the story. It seems to me they then jumped in to CYA and said they would never allow a sale to take place. I can't read the German. Has any official been quoted as saying, I was there and heard the offer?

I'd translate that as such: Foreign secretary Heiko Maas has criticized the alleged attempt of the US government to incentivize the Tübingen pharmaceutical company CureVac to relocate.

mutmaßlich = alleged

I was drinking some coffee while browsing through random websites, procrastinating as much as I can before I have to go back to my work. Then I just stumbled across an incredibly weird story, whcih I thought to be worthwhile to share in this thread(Hope I'm right in assuming that this is where you put random stuffs) :

(Warning: the video includes censored images of a naked man)

(And you can read the full story from this Wikipedia article.)

I found the story to be extremely weird and also quite sad. I was never a fan of Japanese entertainment shows (or most of such shows, for that matter, regardless of the country) but the image of the applauding audience when that poor guy was finally released gave me quite a cringe. Even as a person who's into extremely dehumanizing fantasies, I still found it quite jarring to see so many people innocently cheering on a TV show at the sight of a man, who's been tormented and so stripped of his dignity for their entertainment.

Maybe I'm just too dramatic about it, but I think sometimes you can't make a story any more cruel or weird than what real life sometimes presents to you.

P.S.: And you are right, I'm still procrastinating by writing all these texts. I suppose I really should go back to my work now.
