Tell each of them that you're going to crucify both but if one of them confesses the other will be spared.

D. Something else. I don't think theft between slaves that has no impact on or loss to the Master merits crucifixion. Master might have them whipped with a caning rod on their bare bums for being annoying, though. He might get off on that!

Alternatively, have the girls produce the comb in question. Clearly it is valued by each girl, either to the actual owner for whom it has great personal value (perhaps an heirloom or a personal gift) or as an object that one girl simply desires to take as her own. The thief has no emotional attachment to the comb. Threaten both girls with painful punishment unless the question of ownership can be immediately resolved. The girl that rather quickly says "Oh, fuck it, just let her have it then. I don't want it" is probably the thief because she swiftly gave up her claim to original possession fearing the pain of punishment. The true owner would not so quickly give up possession of an object dear to her. Then crucify the thief.

Admittedly, not such a Solomonic exercise for arriving at the truth, but it might work.
