Stan got up and moved behind Barb, bending over her so he could see the computer screen. Her hair smelled very nice; he wondered what shampoo she used. Then he imagined her in the shower, applying the suds to her soft brunette hair. “Does it look OK? She asked, breaking his reverie.
Stan forced himself to read the release and look at the picture of the victim. “Yeah, looks fine. Send it to the Department’s Public Relations section for final approval and then let’s see what happens.” He stood up slowly, his back aching, feeling old by contrast with Moore, something he never felt working with Dick.

He stood as the police car pulled up by the curb and descended to meet the detectives as they got out of the car. He fit right into the gentrifying neighborhood-curly hair, a neatly trimmed goatee, round glasses.

Then his cell phone rang. “Goldman,” he answered. He listened for a few moments, then said, “OK, Reggie. She’s a student at Greenwich U, so we’re headed over there. We should be back in plenty of time. Talk to you later.”
Barb looked at him quizzically. “Her parents saw the picture. They’re on their way here, driving. It takes about six hours or so from Pittsburgh, so we have time to dig a bit more before they arrive.”

“My concern here,” Reggie interjected, “is we don’t really have a theory of the case right now. I think what we ought to do is have everyone throw out possible scenarios and Barb, you write them on the white board. And don’t be shy, people. With a case this weird, nothing is too far out to be considered. We can always eliminate it from the list as we get more evidence.”

Madi: My hat is off to the illustrations in the new edition of Bronx. My particular favorites, besides the ones with Barb naked are the ones with Reggie, who looks just as portrayed in the story and the one with Barb and Allison Chalmers. The look on her face is perfect. Well done!
