The uniforms of the soldiers are not exact (15th century instead of 13th) but the intention is good...

Guiraude Lavaur, also called Guiraude Laurac or Lady Guiraude (- May 3, 1211) is an iconic figure of resistance to the Albigensian Crusade and of its victims. Guiraude (or Géralde) Lavaur (she held many other titles) was one of the most conspicuous members of the Languedoc aristocracy in the early thirteenth century.

Daughter of Blanche de Paracol and Sicard II (who held the important Lordship of Laurac et Montréal), Guiraude spent her youth in an environment sympathetic to Catharism, which made its impression on her as it did on her sisters (Esclarmonde, Mabilia and others).

Esclarmonde, Navarre and Guiraude Laurac’s brother was Aimery of Montréal. At first, he submitted to Simon de Montfort after the siege of Carcassonne, but rebelled during the autumn of 1209. After the siege of Minerve he gave up his lordships and paid homage to the new ruler of the region. However, considering that the latter had not given him sufficient demesne land to compensate for the loss of his ancestral estates, he changed sides again and participated in spring 1211 in the defence of Lavaur, of which Guiraude was now the Lady (she was apparently a widow by this time).

On May 3, the feast of the Holy Cross, the city fell. Guiraude, presented in ‘The Song of the Crusade’ the epitome of courtly hospitality, suffered a horrible punishment for resisting the Crusaders:

De peiras la cubriron ; don fo dols e pecatz,
Que ja nulhs hom del segle, so sapchatz de vertatz,
No partira de leis entro agues manjat.


Furthermore the Lady Guiraude have they thrown in a well,
Covered her with stones, which was deceit and sin,
For no man in the world, to tell the truth,
Ever left her company without having eaten well.

So Lady Guiraude, this charitable soul, was thrown with her wrists bound down to the bottom of a well before being stoned. The site of her torment can now be seen at the Esplanade Plô (the exact site of the old Roman fort) where there is a memorial stone dedicated to her and the other victims of the siege of Lavaur (400 ‘heretics’ were taken to the slaughterhouse, eighty knights, including Aimery, were hanged). On the cenotaph is the Cathar dove, symbol of peace. In addition, streets and local restaurants are named Guiraude, Dame Guiraude, or Guiraude Laurac (as is the library).

We can remark "the Anonym"'s extreme emotion ("song" written at the beginning of the 13th century). He doesn't try to seem more or mess impartial as a modern author would do.
