Barb's first attempt at a manip.

Ahhh, I stole that hanging pic from crucifixion manip construction thread ... is there a way to know in advance whether a cut out is clean enough? Does the size of the background pic have anything to do with the final result?
Sometimes rough edges around a cut-out will show up against a black background, but at other times, you won't notice them until you paste it onto your chosen background. In the case of your hanging pic, the edges would be much less noticable on a light background.

The size of the background dictates the size of the final result.
I usually check the size of my source figure in Paint first, and then check the size of the background in another Paint window.
If my source figure is large (high resolution) I can enlarge the background in Paint, to a size which accomodates the figure.

Then I import the images to Photoshop, which allows me to work in hi-res without having to drastically reduce the size of the figure (which would otherwise lose resolution.)

The final result can always be reduced if you want a lower file size for posting.
I usually submit full size, hi-res manips on DeviantArt, and either host them there for showing here, or create an alternative 50% reduction version to post on this site.

Please ask if anything doesn't make sense. :)

Pp isn’t cack-handed and would make a hell of a mess of her trying to use His left
And, like Pp, I'm right handed, so I must be in a good mood to use my weaker hand..
Geeze! What a bunch of whimps! A true Master of the Whip (plug for my story) can castrate a fly at ten paces with either hand and still leave his pants on!
There! Satisfied? I just learned a new skill. :p
You go girl. Make it easy for the right-handers who can't switch-hit! They'd better stay out of certain bars in downtown Frisco!

Barb has made a splendid manip, is what she's done. :clapping:
It is fun, as you say. Well done! And don't sell yourself short. A lot of us are still novices in one or more aspects of this art. Welcome to the club. You are more than competent at this. There's a real story and vision in your images.

Thanks phleb!

Like Bob says above, it's a question of ragged edges. Most of these lasso tools leave a ragged edge which may not be immediately obvious. You want to avoid ragged edges or pale or dark edges around your figures if possible. Bob and I are a bit old school and cut out our figures manually.

Ideally you want to match the size (and the quality) of the background with the figure. Large can always be made smaller, small may not look good when enlarged, depends on the quality of the image. You don't want a beautiful high res figure against a scratchy background, or vice versa.

Nice work so far Barb, and you're learning how much fun it can be. Are you using materials from the Crucifixion Manipulations Construction Kit ?

Now He can whip Barb properly :firedevil:

For this one, I worked about illumine / darken some parts of the pic , and also about the neatness of the background ...
In first, I worked about general adjustement of the pic ...
I hope that it brings a better feeling to the scene ...
