You have a choice of two background styles,
and you can toggle between them by clicking on 'Style' at bottom left of the screen.
'Blackend' is a black background with grey text,
'Default' is a white background with black text.
'Default' is the default style of our service provider, XenForo,
'Blackend' is the style of the home page when you first find it,
so in a sense it's the 'default' style for CruxForums.
As a Member, when you log in the style will revert
to whichever you were using when you last logged off.
Choose whichever you, or your eyes, prefer.
If you simply type in a post, it will appear grey on Blackend and black on Default,
and will switch automatically from one to 'tother;
so grey on the colour menu (appearing as black on Default) is the 'default setting'.
Other colours in the menu on the reply box toolbar appear unchanged on either style,
so most of them are more or less difficult to read on one style or the other.
If you want to use a style from the menu,
please check that your work is visible on both background styles.
If you're pasting in text, either remove formatting before you do so,
or use the eraser at the top left of the reply box toolobar,
so it reverts to the standard grey/black.

A question from Fantasmo: Is there an other way than using the "rubber" to remove formatting?
I was not aware that setting colour from the pulldown menu is not the same as "no formatting" until yesterday, although it looks the same on screen.

To put it in other words:
When selecting the font colour from the pulldown menu
Colour_pulldown.jpg
this colour is "hard coded". It will be shown as such in all styles, what may make it difficult to read.
However obviously the forum software knows a colour like "default text colour" that is adapted to the style used. So we may want to use this "artificial colour" that unfortunately is not available from the colour pulldown!

But removing all formatting information will make texts fall back into this "default text" style.

So, if one wants to do a copy/paste from somewhere else, for example a text document prepared on the computer, the best procedure is as follows:

- Copy / Paste
- Select the whole text that may / will contain unwanted formatting
- Use the rubber (eraser for our American friends... no naughty thoughts ;) ) to remove all formatting

- Where needed add additional formatting like colours, italic, underline etc. only after having previously cleared unwanted formatting.

This will return texts that should be fine in both styles.

And as a side note: Blackened is the default style for CF and I am persuaded that most are using this. But many may use a white background as well. Keep that in mind when using fancy text colours.

Remark: On the upper right hand side there is an icon looking like an "A" saying "use BB code editor". (BB stands for Bulletin Board and not for cup sizes ;) )
When clicking on that one, you see locations where text has been formatted in grey, what is not visible in "Blackened".

Obviously formatting can also be removed by editing the BB codes away...
Switch back by clicking on "use rich text editor"
