In the late 2010s, the Supreme Court of the land decided to review each state’s proceedurs for their executions. As each state had various means to terminate a prisoner’s life, depending on the state everything from hanging, shooting, the electric chair, the gas chamber, or lethal injection was approved depending on the laws in effect for each jurisdiction at the time. This was done to end the countless appeals as to the way theprison was to be executed was cruel or inhumane. The courts would have allowed burning a prisoner at the stake if any state would have had that method on their books at the time. Also appeals of whether the convict’s attorney was competent or not were wholesalely rejected. After all there was a provision that the state would pay for your attorney. This dramactically reduced the time between a person’s conviction and their execution, and greatly helped Tree’s law business.
Unfortunately for Sheryl Wilson, the slug found in Lana Salsiccia’s had a perfect ballistic match to her own gun and the spent cartridge found in Lana’s home had perfect fingerprint matches to Sheryl.
The fact that Sheryl had been arrested and brought to jail naked did not sway the courts she did not have a fair trial.
Sheryl awaits her execution in the La Roca penitentiary. The guards take special attention to Sheryl as it is still a rare occasion when one of their prisoners is a ‘dead woman walking’. It isn’t often they have prisoner with such a short term. Most prisoners get a longer sentence but Sheryl won’t spend much time there as her execution is just days away.
The guards were not the finest professionals at the La Roca penitentiary. They were effiencent in making sure the prisoners served their sentences- there had never been an escape on their watch- but to say they respected even basic rules of treatment of their prisoners would be a bit of a stretch.
A pair of prison matrons take special interest in Sheryl. Nadine and Monica have taken after their mothers’ occupation and become guards at the prison. Like their moms who enjoyed making Rosie Scotti’s last days a hell on earth, Nadine and Monica take bestow their specail attention to Sheryl, handcuffing her and shackling to her bunk and making her tend to their perverse desires.
Sheryl, certainly not used to pleasing women, much less her guards, protests the abuses she is submitted to. Monica scolds her saying “When you are choking on the poisoned gas, you’ll look back fondly at our time together.”
T. H. Tree from Phoenix Pharmisutical comes by the La Roce Penitencary to cleck on Warden Kockworthy’s supply of sodium cyanide tablets. Tree likes Miss Kockworthy as she always gets horny when she has a prisoner to execute, and she is not a bad lay. Tree’s company is not shy about selling the drugs used to carry out a prisoner’s execution unlike their competitors.
Tree and Miss Kockworthy exchange pleasantries before Tree says “I figure you are down to your last tablet. It will still do her, but it will take longer to finish her.”
Miss Kockworthy says “The courts say I have to gas her to death. It never said how many tablets I have to use. So what if it burns the hell out of her lungs before she croaks? I get hot just thinking about her struggling to breathe. I don’t suppose you care help a horny warden in her time of need…”
A little later, Tree goes to the visitor’s cell to see the future victim of his drugs. He takes a swig of his drink and says “So you are the infamous Sheryl Wilson, the one they are going to gas to death.”
“She was worth it. I’d shoot the bitch again but aim for something below her head” Sheryl says. “It was too quick blowing her brains out.”
Tree says “Maybe you won’t think so when you are breathing the gas.”
Sheryl wonders what Tree means but doesn’t ask.
It is the day before Sheryl’s execution. She is visited by a Professor Barbara Moore from the University of the Virgin Martyrs. Barbara explains she is doing research on the barbaric ways women are treated by the state’s justice system. Sheryl says “I capped the bitch. So what if they are going to put me to death for doing her,”
Barbara says “We’ll see if you feel the same way when you are breathing the poisoned air.”
Later that day, Sister Angel of the Order of the Magnificent Conception comes to Sheryl’s cell to offer the prisoner comfort before her execution. Sheryl asks how Sister Angel was able to come to her cell on death row. Sister Angel explains she was thoroughly searched by one of the guards. She says “I was even cavity searched by a guard named Gunner. It was a bit embarrassing, but I think I could get used to it!”
Sheryl mentions Professor Moore’s comments about breathing the poisoned air and asks what it will feel like.
Sister Angel says “You know they are putting you to death…”
Sister Angel lifts her habit and says “The gas burns your lungs and it gets difficult to breathe. Of course, you will look better than I would. You have much nicer breasts.”
“…but it will kill you… eventually.”
Doing her night rounds before she goes to bed, Warden Kockworthy comes by Sheryl’s cell. Sheryl is obviously agitated from what she has heard earlier. She asks Warden Kockworthy if it will be painful and slow while she is being put to death. Warden Kockworthy says “The courts say we have to gas you to death.”
“I know that, but will I feel it?” Sheryl asks.
“I’m told it will feel like your lungs are on fire. But don’t worry. It lasts only a few minutes before you die” the warden says with a sly grin…
