Denuded, flogged, raped and abused, she is slowly recovering, while the soldiers are preparing all tools for further tormenting the condemned woman. Her hearth sank and she's crushed with pain and degradation. She is looking feverishly on the nails and hammer, unable to move, softly weeping. She wants to wake up from the nightmarish dream - but it is no dream. Her life after 33 years of struggles with fate finally is coming to an end, and it will be a really dreadful end. And nothing can be avoided.

This is the end of any hope.

Very evocative...so moving ... easy for me to relate to her predicament. One of your very best drawings, IMHO

Maybe so, maybe no... I find it a proof that a title or a short description could give a significant improvement to the sketch itself.

Is it an innocent saint, condemned to the terrible death, although she committed no sin, dying on her cross? Or is it a criminal, justly nailed to the damned wood, with a sun setting right behind her head? Who knows?

On the other hand : keeping up appearances while nailed naked on the cross, hardly does matter, even for a queen.

...however I must agree with you. For some reason I find it to be one of my favorite too. Perhaps the text is as good as the drawing. Her fate will be so deeply frightening and sad.

Also a good way to keep any onlookers from heaping too much abuse on you. If you keep your wits about you (admittedly tough to do while pinned naked to a cross yourself), start giving your mistress an earful and direct their attention to her.

Now you are teasing us! Nice change, the image seems clear but the text leaves us conflicted. Some will be happy to see her as a saint, an innocent punished for doing good, one not deserving of this ordeal. Others will be happier imagining her as a sinner, a criminal completely deserving of this fate. I think I tend towards the first, myself - after all, if it really was just the sun, it would be harder to get a clear view of her, sh'e be in silhouette

Andy, I haven’t checked in for a while, so maybe I’ve missed a comment or six. But it’s hard to conceive of anybody giving you a hard time about full frontal nudity.

It’s one of the primary fixes the crux addicts come for.

The sequence of the story is dramatic and exiting, would like to see more, I guess the woman is a condenmed christian follower.
I have already imagined one of my martyr storys to go with it.
