The two accused heretics did not know what is in store of them when they entered the torture chamber. Since both were innocent of the charges, they expected to be freed after the questioning by the inquisition. Of course both were be tortured Whipping, branding and the rack were used, as well as multiple rapes by the torture master and his assistant. After the girls confessed to escape more torture, the two were sentenced to public punishment in the city's main square. After each received 25 lashes, their naked soles were branded with flaming hot irons with "hrt", the abbreviation for haereticus, Latin for heretic. After their punishment, they were taken to the harbor and chained to rowing benches where they would be galley slaves. One of the slave drivers came over to inspect the two new rowers. He smiled as he observed the swelling whip whelps over their backs, asses, tits and legs. "Good," he said. "You two whores are used to the lash. You'll get plenty of the whip on this ship." Both women sobbed as they realized their lives were to humiliaiton, physical labor and suffering.
