I do have to ask, how is the blood obtained? It seems such a waste of sword-girls if they are killed at the end.
True...
It doesn't take much blood to sign a contract!
I might imagine myself and the enemy warrior-sacrifice, ...both of us bound to a frame or x-cross.
In the middle of a grounds where a feast celebrating the peace will occur.
Perhaps the tradition of honor requires,
that satisfaction is only found,
when each warrior has blood of the enemy on his blade.
These are not huge armies, rather tribal bands
A pint or so should suffice, to put a few drops on every man's sword...
With that ceremony complete, the women of both tribes join in,
and wild dancing commences.
The tribes do want fresh blood sometimes,
not only on their swords but also for their family lines.
So the tradition for this feast is ... no question is ever asked,
about the provenance of any child conceived during this meeting of the tribes...
if anyone doubts, the chieftain recognizes them as 'Born of the War God' and adopts them.
Mixing the tribal bloodlines also offers the chance of perhaps turning a peace into a more lasting alliance.
At the center of the dance and orgy, of course,
are we, the sword-girl sacrifices
(we were never meant to win the fight, we were offerings)
Each of us free for use, by all members of the opposite tribe.
The chieftains and priests will know,
what is to be done with us,
when the morning comes.
