I just checked Wikipedia to see how Asian bamboo torture worked.
The giant bamboo holds a very special record in the plant world. It can shoot up to 70 centimeters (25.5``) per day.
In one application, the victim is tied to a chair without a seat and the tip of the bamboo shoot is inserted into the anus or vagina. The sprout grows into the body within two to three days if watered abundantly with water. This initially causes extreme pain and leads to death if important organs are damaged. The threat and execution of this torturous death penalty was applied to slaves in Réunion.
