In Xotho, the capital of my fictional kingdom of Khadenia, crucifixions as well as the execution of debreasting sentences on female offenders are carried out on the central market square. In the centre of the square there is a large brick platform (10 x 10 metres and 1.6 metres high), which is also used as a stage for cultural events of all kinds. The crosses are placed upright here after the condemned have been nailed to their lying cross.

Alternatively, for example in winter or during periods of continuous rain, crucifixions and debreastings are also performed in our State Opera House (962 seats). Not for the benefit of the condemned, of course, but in the interest of the spectators.

As a rule, all these executions, no matter where they take place, are publicly announced ten days in advance. Participation as a spectator is of course free of charge. All executions are also recorded with high-quality television cameras and can be viewed in the state archives in Xotho.
Can you recommend some material about debreastings? It’s a favorite punishment of mine. Thank you, Sir Henry. Your medical knowledge is impressive.

I'm sorry the poll closed on July 30, and I missed voting. My location would be on a hill that can be seen from the road or a village, although I liked Nailed Girl's choice also. So, Anette, when you opened this thread, you said you would share your choice with us. What was it? I'm looking forward to your explanation.

I would say, anywhere there is a crowed to watch and where it's humiliation. And even very sexy. Hell like end of the Third Servial Wars, ( Spartacus) 6000 slaves Hang on cross along the road from Rome. And of course the during the Jewish Revolt many many where hang on cross out on the hill. But most definitely being on a cross in a city center or court yard.

Perhaps, we could simply ask @Anette_Damnata ?:icon_tfno:;)
Sorry for the delay. I think I've earned a few extra lashes with that...

First of all, thank you for participating. Every possible selection was also chosen a few times, so the pre-selection was already quite good.

My answer didn't turn out very well, unfortunately, and also got the most votes - the best place is certainly the hill outside the city.

Why? I think that, as a normal citizen, no one should come into direct contact with the crucifixion - but of their own free will, be it as gawpers or relatives. That speaks against a crucifixion in the city.

The connection to the city is the Way of the Cross of the Damned from the prison out to the place of execution. This, however, takes place at dawn - those who do not want to, do not have to see it. Around seven o'clock, all the crosses are erected so that the work does not have to be carried out in the blazing heat.

Nevertheless, the place must be accessible to all. A crucifixion in secret makes no sense; it should not only serve as a punishment but also as a deterrent.

The crucifixion mound has its own aura - empty crosses, occupied crosses with freshly crucified, also with cadavers. Surely one notices the slightly sweet smell of sweat, blood, death....

A place where one does not like to linger, but which also attracts one magically...

Do you understand me?

Silly me! In your opening post you spoke of having a favorite location and would share it with us. Maybe there was something lost in translation, but I thought you would post a picture of yourself crucified in your favorite location. Silly me!

That was my choice too, and the explanation sounds very convenient.

Inside a city, moaning of the condemned during the night could cause complaints from the neigbours of the site.

My, and also your and overall second choice was along a road. Of course, here, ignorant travelers may pass along the crucified. They should have to be warned in advance, perhaps, with an appropriate traffic sign, in case crucifixions have been conducted along the road.

This sign could warn the traveler that he will go along a zone of mass crucifixion along the road, from 3 stadii (some 500 m) on.;)sign.jpg

In my world, the question is not quite "where would the crosses be" but rather, where shouldn't they be. Let's take a common city, in the typical Roman style of the era. There is a certain simplicity to a Roman city; there are commonly reoccurring elements, especially within certain time periods. There would be an open market, and agora, and a forum, usually some kind of troop garrison, and a palace, within a citadel. The most important peace of the puzzle for any city of decent size, however, would be the city wall. City walls are often not given their proper due in the modern day. In ancient times a wall was the delineating factor between a city and a town. It would have multiple roads in and out of the city, eat one terminating in a city gate. through the city itself there was often a grand avenue, often colonnaded.

In a proper grand capital, I would anticipate multiple different crucifixion locations. Outside the market for thieves, or outside the wall for traitors, along the roads into the city for slaves, et cetera...

however, there would be no crucifixion near the viaducts, waterways, or holy places. They are unclean and must be treated like all of the other refuse of the city.

Just remember that, on a hilltop, you can take some wind, since it can blow there undisturbed by obstacles. No problem if it would be a soft breeze, but if not, when you are sweating as a result of the ordeal of being crucified, it could feel rather cold up there!

Somewhere private. I need not a adiuance, need not a place where there's no cover. Less of course im looking to let the Sun fry my "victim" while she's on the cross. The woods offer a lot of cover and if I act smart I could just use a tree but the woods can be very cold becuase there's very sunlight coming in. Or hell maybe I will be able to find a opening in the forest where I can plant the cross with my "victim" on it. A dungeon sounds intresting but there's more people there and I have never been to one. If am to pick a place i'd say a ranch near a forest.
If I ever do engage with this it will be as private as it gone get.

would you let the victim alone after a while? when you eat or sleep?
that will be very cruel..alone on the cross only the pain is the audience for a long time

And miss all the fun?! Whom you take me by? While she's having fun on the cross I will set myself for a nice barbeque a bit of sping water, fresh baked bread and the to top it all I will add to my "victim" a few of her toys maybe a crown made of willow strings (braches? Cords? Whatever) with flowers and spikey bits mixed in and enjoy the day togheter! ;)
I might let her spend the night up there but in the morning she'll come down.
I consider myself a bit of an artist there will be plenty to do.

you talk about a timed crucifixion, not an execution fantasy, that´s mutch different.
as a victim, sentence to death by crucifixion i would like a crowd for a bit entertainment to death

You mean all the tiny animals, birds, and ants, and flies and geese, and her pain dont count as audience? My self included. Mind explain a bit this whole "sentence to death" thing please?
I ask becuase this is not execution topic is just "Location of Crucifixion"
