Very educational!:)

Just for curiosity : what are the sizes of the pieces of timber?
Okay having measured,said,dimensions here's the info :......
Patibilum:
H : 9 cm ^
W : 152.5 cm <->
D
: 3.5 cm

Stipes:
H : 203 cm ^
W : 9 cm <->
D : 3.5 cm

Both planks are of equal thickness and width, the height is different if laid side by side.
Hopefully should meet current European /Roman guidelines regarding premium French/Gaul Province Crucifixion Wood as supplied by, @messaline ;)

Well today I stripped to my loincloth*, and did more work on the Crucifix .....
Here's some pics of today's fun & games...

Yeah,I'm showing my rebellious streak... ;)
(Disclaimer: I have since discovered that my premium Crux wood actually came from the province of Germania, and not Gaul,as originally suggested.....mea Culpa....)

*Bollocks to Health & Safety,I'm doing my work,as any slave would.....no Hi-vis or yellow Hard Hat in sight..lol plus it's bloody hard, hot work !!
pic 1: Proof of origin
pics 2 & 3 : my new rotating plug to keep Crucifix in place.....subject to obtaining new,(longer) screws for Door frame.
pic 5 : New,sturdier hooks in place...
pic 6 : Brackets to be installed behind/ between Patibilum & Stipes....for added robustness.
pics 4 & 7 : How the apparatus looks at the moment....
( I was going to do a 'selfie' but decided not to frighten anyone !! Lol )

Okay....some more archive shots. ;) ;)
First four taken before I'd painted my Titulus.... the remainder taken later on,with some smartphone "effects"....

Yes, you can see how much better the wood you have now is than what is in these shots.
35mm should be fine for patib depth, and the width and length look fine too.
The stipes could do to be bigger, but again as you are fixing it to a door frame it will probably be fine. How are you holding it in place at floor level?
I used a cross of similar dimensions at one time that was securely strapped to a metal pillar, it was quite sturdy.
Here is a (poor quality) photo of a patibulum I have used with adjustable settings for width. The slots allow 3 different angles for the arms, 3 different degrees of difficulty :), and the screw is an additional anchor for rings and clips. This cross is currently retired and behind other items in my garage.

Again, for photos and aesthetics broader planks may be more attractive, but what you have should work fine.

Okay...at the behest of @phlebas I've taken a few pics of the floor/doorframe fittings....
Because the wood on bottom is laying sideways it doesn't flex :)
pics 1>5 : The base fitments....
pics 6 & 7 : The top fitments....
pic 8 : Crucifix laying upon bed & it's heavy !! :eek::doh: ;)

O-kay.....
After a lot of sweaty drilling, cursing, hammering, sawing and screwing...(No,not that sort !!)
I've finally got the raised footrest in place, for now....
I removed the original support, because it looked WAY too weak for the meant purpose....
pic 1: Original Support,going...
pic 2 : Going....
pic 3 : Gone !!
pics 4 & 5 : New support bolted in place
pic 6 : Footrest in place,(Stipes upside down.)
pics 7 & 8 : Crucifix in place,note temporary (display) Patibilum....and removed,for now,"Cornu"

Hopefully when I stand upon it,my entire body will be on full display !!
(fingers crossed.....)

Hiya folks,I've purchased the essential metalwork, plus some cotton rope, from 'Homebase' so got cracking with fixing the Crucifix and reassembling the sturdier Patibilum.....(I'm experimenting with a different-sized "Cornu")
pic1 : The Crucifix as it now stands....
pics 2 & 3 : The bolts in position,rear of cross,top & bottom
pic 4 : My newly purchased rope....
pic 5 :Another view of my home made Crucifix....
pics 6 & 7 : Those lovely figures that were previously commented upon, the dark- skinned girl is meant to be carrying an Oar,(sadly missing)

So is that a foot rest, Baracus? It looks very solid. The cornu is rather close to it, quite low down?
I'm curious to see how your ropes work.
I've seen and even posted pics of those figures, but you have the real thing! Marvelous.

Hi @phlebas .yeah the foot rest looks fairly solid, but I need to construct a couple of steps for me to be able to "climb" up onto them.(once wrists are bound)
Agree,re: Cornu..... if I were standing on footrest then it is redundant,it's only effective when standing on the ground...
I'll make provision for a higher position.
Thanks again re: figurines...ironically I've literally just modified the Galley slave,by simply replacing the missing Oar,with something more conventional...open to interpretation.
(I'll take a picture when it's done.... ;) )
I did have more figures, but my ex-wife destroyed them :cursing2::cursing2:And tragically I cannot replace them,as company went bust 14 years ago :( :(
