You're probably no more terrible than the rest of us. ;):devil:
Here's a couple of semi-naked dancers (these are paintings, so they're "art", and therefore safe to look at :oops::cool::D ).

A very nice group - Otto Pilny "Dance of the Seven Veils"
Théodore Chassériau "Oriental interior: nude in a harem"
Gaston Bussière's "Salome"

Can anyone tell what that pair of metal objects on the floor
near the left-hand edge of #1 might be?

Not sure they are metal. May be wood or leather. They seem to be weird platform sandals or an esoteric bedouin torture device. I vote for the later.

Likely platform sandals. These were common, apparently, in Asia and the Middle East and allowed the wearer to walk above any dirty surface, like say, in mud or an outdoor offal pit, or on a path to a latrine (or at CF, across a floor covered in various bodily fluids due to the varied recreational activities of the denizens).

Yes, thanks for the close-up, they do seem to have sole-shaped surfaces.
I'd think they'd be torturously uncomfortable, I was thinking they were
some fiendish form of oriental bondage wear (but that's the way my mind works  )
The 'jatti' type slippers the pipe-player has discarded look more comfy,
I've got a pair from India similar to those. But I don't think I'd want the platforms.

They were also common in Europe because in every town the residents disposed their wastes (all of them - igitt) through the next window. It was so much that some streets were raised 10 cm per year.

Yes, as you navigate through the wynds and vennels of old Edinburgh,
listen out for "Gardy-loo!" (Reguardez l'eau! "watch out for water!")
from a tenement window high above ...

But imagine walking with those things on your feet,
on a roughly cobbled surface already thick with muck,
you'd be more likely to break your ankles than get home
with clean tootsies.

I really, really don´t want to imagine that feeling (or the smell).

I suspect that this was a key consideration in London when they finally decided to build the sewers and the Embankment. ;) :D
