It seems a strange date to choose, when the natural world - at least the northern half of it - is just waking up!
 
It's also San Giuseppe, St Joseph's day - when Italians eat these very superior doughnuts, zeppole, as l'bogo's been telling me:

There's a legend that only Italians could dream up about St J needing to get some Egyptian currency on the Flight with Mary and the baby, so he makes zeppole and sells them by the roadside! :enamorado:

St. Joseph's Day is also the day when the swallows return to the San Juan Capistrano mission in California to nest. A few years ago they did a restoration of the eves, and the birds did not return. With mucho tourist dollars at stake, frantic investigations were undertaken. I don't know if the problem was ever resolved. I imagine that gradually a few birds will find the old nesting sites, and their offspring will return, and gradually things will get back to normal.

ours are pretty reliable, April 19th - 22nd. Swifts come a week or so earlier, and house-martins.

I have been to that old mission several times and it is incredibly peaceful walking the old cloisters and the quiet gardens. Very worth a visit if you are in S. California (and not just for the swallows.)

It's not much different here in Germany. In Cologne, the allegations of abuse should be thoroughly investigated, but not by special police officers or the public prosecutor, but by representatives of the Catholic Church itself !!!!

oho but here in poland they make special commision but is from goverment representants who supported church so they only took big salary commision members who journalist last time say in non public tv :oops: :cat:
