I'd say a special kind of stocks - perhaps one designed to make it's victims sexually available. Some more and a question.

I like the face of pain of the second one.
And a question: Is the third one device a pillory or a stocks
I've heard that the sheer weight of it could prove fatal over time...Certainly not a pillory, that requires a pole, like KK says, it's a kind of stocks, I think I've seen similar in other Chinese images.
Another Chinese speciality was the 'cangue' (Mandarin tcha, apparently), a kind of portable pillory

I recognize the face of the woman in the pillory in the second picture as Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Randall in the series "Outlander." In one episode, she was "skelped," (whipped) during a witch trial, hence her lovely expression. Some more and a question.

All the best,
Dafnees
Or female miscreants to the platform in the square for public punishment and humilation.A kind of portable pillory. Very useful for leading slaves to the market.

I think it's called a yoke or something - and yes, it makes a decent alternative to chains when you don't need them capable of working.A kind of portable pillory. Very useful for leading slaves to the market.

Indeed - we wouldn't want them being able to shield themselves against the crowd. (That could even be being taken to a real pillory.)Or female miscreants to the platform in the square for public punishment and humilation.
Here's some more info on the cangue from a previous post:Certainly not a pillory, that requires a pole, like KK says, it's a kind of stocks, I think I've seen similar in other Chinese images.

Quite the taste of the real thing! Of course, that would still have been worse, even if the time was no longer - because the hundreds wouldn't limit themselves to watching.I must have spent about half an hour in the pillory, but it seemed much longer. My discomfort at being stretched at an odd angle began within seconds of being locked in and intensified throughout my ordeal. And since my feet were restrained, I was unable to shift my position to get more comfortable. I was also sweating in the heat , with my sweating being enhanced by the intensifying pain of being awkwardly stretched. My discomfort was further enhanced by flies which landed on my face, shoulders and legs. Adding to the physical discomfort was the embarrassment of being tortured in front of hundreds of men, women and children.
I've experienced the yoke, which is kind of a portable pillory. At a Renfaire, which I attended in my sleeveless shift and knee breeches, the garb of an Elizabethan peasant, I was handed a stuffed bird and then a King's Warder, wearing a gray doublet accused me of stealing it. He was from the notorious St. Gregory's Guild which keeps law and order at Renfaires. They maintain a justice court that finds defendants guilty 100 percent of the time and then forces them to undergo Elizabethan punishments.A kind of portable pillory. Very useful for leading slaves to the market.
I experienced a similar pillory at the Big Bear Renfaire a few years ago. This was maintained by a leather dealer who was into "the scene." After stripping to the waist and removing my sandals, I stepped onto the platform and had my head and hands locked in. Although this one didn't have foot stocks, I still had to stretch uncomfortably. I felt the wood close tightly around my neck, and then I was locked in. Once again, within seconds my discomfort was increasing.Quite the taste of the real thing! The man then told the gathering crowd that I had been caught in possession of obscene pictures of the Queen and was to be punished with a whipping. He then gave me ten lashes with a flogger. The lashes generated some pain but since this was a "vanilla" event, we didn't dare push the envelope. But I yelled with each stroke.
Once again, although this was more or less a "pretend" whipping, the pillory was real, as was the public humiliation, with the added indignity of having to strip.

After I was found guilty, I was led, barefoot, onto a wooden platform where I was fitted into a device consisting of two boards with holes for the head and hands--like those of a pillory but without a post. Instead, it was chained to the center of the platform. but the chain was only about four-and-a-half feet long, so I couldn't stand up fully and had to kneel. Then the constables dumped buckets of water over me until I was thoroughly drenched. As my punishment continued, the heavy yoke weighed down on me, adding to my discomfort. And my public humiliation was happening in front of hundreds of spectators.
I felt that the yoke was worse than the pillory because the prisoner has to support it himself, and the short chain forcing me to kneel added to the punishment.
Indeed, You must be a slow learner, LOL.You seem to have had quite the set of experiences.
