Awesome new works, Gabrieleknight!!!
I especially love the one showing a girl trying to stop the impalement using her feet...
Her expression is priceless!
What a nice entertainment should it be for the crowd!

ELVIRA OF BARCELONA CONDEMNED AD CRUCEM

Very little is known about Elvira. What we can infer from the iconography is that this young Christian martyr died a virgin, that she did not abjure her faith, and that she was crucified.

JULITTA OF iKONIUM CRUCIFIED AND TORTURED TO DEATH

Julitta lived in the city of Iconium in the province of Lykaoneia in Asia Minor. She was descended from an illustrious family and was a Christian. Widowed early on, she raised her three-year old-son Kyrikos. During the emperor Diocletian’s persecution of Christians, Saint Julitta departed the city with her son and two trustworthy servants, leaving behind her home, property, and servants.
Concealing her noble rank, she hid out first at Seleucia, and then at Tarsus. There around the year 305 she was recognized, arrested and brought to trial before the governor, Alexander. Strengthened by the Lord, she fearlessly answered the judge’s questions, and firmly confessed her faith in Christ.
The governor gave orders to beat the saint with rods. During her torments Saint Julitta kept repeating, “I am a Christian, and will not offer sacrifice to demons.”
The little boy Kyrikos cried, seeing his mother being tortured, and wanted to go to her. The governor Alexander tried to sit him on his lap, but the boy broke free and shouted, “Let me go to my mother, I am a Christian.” The governor threw the boy down from the high tribunal and kicked him down the stone steps. The boy struck his head on the sharp edges and died.
Julitta, seeing her lacerated son, gave thanks to God that He had permitted her child to be perfected before her, and to receive the unfading crown of martyrdom. After being crucified and tortured in many cruel ways she was beheaded with a sword.

AGNES OF ROME SCOURGED IN THE ARENA

Agnes was the daughter of a Roman patrician family. She was very young when, during one of the persecutions in Rome during the 3rd Century, she refused to make the obligatory sacrifice to the emperor.
She was brought to trial. The judge wanted to put Agnes to shame and had her stripped naked in public and thrown into prison. She was then sent to a brothel, but somehow managed to keep her virginity there. When the authorities realized that Agnes could not be turned away from her faith, they ordered her to be cruelly scourged in public. Finally the executioner pierced her throat with a sword.

CATHARINA OIF ALEXANDRIA PUBLICLY TORTURED

Catharina was of noble descent, well educated and even at the age of 18 versed in science and rhetorics. She used her capabilities well in discussions with pagan philosophers and converted many to the Christian faith, to the dismay of the pagan authorities of Alexandria (Egypt). During the persecution of Maxentius she was imprisoned and then tortured, scourged and burned with torches. Then she was sentenced to a particularly cruel death: she was going to be tortured to death on a wheel. It is not clear whether this meant “breaking on the wheel” in the medieval fashion, strapping her to a wheel and drawing her body over fire or sharp knives, or mangling her body with a spiked wheel, but it was certainly meant to be slow, painful, and spectacular. However, the wheel broke, and the dismayed executioners finally had to kill her “the noble way” by beheading her with a sword.
