Road Side Crucifixion II

Go to CruxDreams.com
There were some speculations and questions regarding 'Roadside Crucifixion I'. Well, here it is. It was simply my first attempt, which I discarded because I don't find it good enough. But judge for yourself.
"Not good enough."? You must be joking, Sir! It is great!:clapping:

The setting is a bit different than the 'Crucifixion II' pic. Here no action against defeated people, but an execution in Italy itself. Criminals? Rioters? Rebelous slaves? The onlookers in the distance look satisfied about the crucifixions : 'They get what they deserved!' you hear people say!

This is a pic from the time when I began to publish my work. I like to believe that I have improved myself since. The pic was removed by DA. After it was online for more than a year, they all of a sudden found it no longer suitable.
I remember this picture. I loved it so much and now I found that it's gone from DA. Thanks for posting it here, Sir.

One of the main difference between 1 and 2 is the background and the ground fog in 2, it completely change the imagery.
It's interesting to compare the 2, thanks for posting!

On the website of the ‘BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY’ I found an article, suggesting that Titus, to crush the Jewish rebellion, crucified 500 Jews per day, outside Jerusalem, over a period of several month. Assuming that ‘several’ means at least three, I find this story hard to believe. With an estimated population of 20000 to 50000 at the time, the entire city population would have been wiped out.

Anyway: here’s my idea how it may have looked like.

BTW: I think it was mp5stab 'complained'
;)
that I don't post enough. I try to make it up to him by posting a larger pic with several cruxes at once. :Laie_22mini:

Uuups! Unfortunately I had to upload the pic in a lower quality. The original version was rejected because it is too large. :( Hope, you'll still enjoy it!
great pic! lots of action going on!

It's a crux classic - seriously, I think you should let us keep your crucifixion scenes in our Archive - it's good to see how your treatment of the topic has developed, all three that you've shown here are superb, though I agree the latest is the greatest - are there, or can we hope for, more?

Yeah @Eulalia, what you said.

A major difference between 1 and 2 is, that on #1, the crucified show no whipping welts.

A similarity is the anger of the closest figure towards the viewpoint character.

"Loxuru, it's messed up by your pathetic ego! The next time you start a conspiracy against the emperor, do it on your own, you bungler! "

Incredible work! Thank you for posting it. I spent some time savoring it, and this girl about halfway down the line stands out to me, not only for the contrast with the smiling legionary in the foreground:

IMG_6878.jpeg

These poor crucified people have been given some devious little sediles. They are enough for a person to brace their naked, sweaty ass against, but not enough to support even the weight of a petite little girl like this one. She is going to have to keep her leg muscles (mostly her quads), activated to stay on the sedile and breathing easy.

Most of the others crucified earlier on have given up the struggle and are not using their sediles. But this girl still fights for life. She had so much to look forward to. Betrothal to a kind man. A wedding night. Birthing children and surviving the ordeal to suckle them at her breasts. Grandchildren of her own, in time. Maybe becoming the family matriarch.

All that is gone now. Her life ended the moment the Romans marched her out of the gates, stumbling and crying with her patibulum tied to her skinny shoulders. She has not accepted that fact yet. She still tries to sit on her sedile, even as her legs cramp and shake. It won’t be long now until her body does what her spirit will not and give up. She’ll cry out as she slides down the cross into the crouching position of those who are simply waiting to die.

No matter what she does, this is the poor girl’s last day.

Here is one more crucifixion pic I like to share!

It's a spin-off from a commission work I'm doing right now. I used it to setup the scenery and the environment. After adding some older figures and polishing them up a little, I suddenly had a complete picture.

To avoid the same objections like with my last work, about the missing source of wood, I added some cedar trees this time. ;)

I hope you like this little experiment, for which I used a painting from Fjodor Andrejewitsch Bronnikow as inspiration.

Unfortunately, this will be my last crux work for some time. I need to get backto the topics, which are a bit more closer to my heart.

Good picture, and Tree appreciates the crucified guy (realistically) does not have a hard-on...

Another great scene - it's better to have created a small number of classics than simply repeating the same theme again and again, but sooner or later you'll surely be drawn back to Golgotha, and in the meantime we'll enjoy whatever else you care to share.

I think every once in a while someone comes along and you go, "HOLY SHIT!!!"
All the responses speak for themselves!!!
Do your thing, as the spirit moves you, but look at the emotion and appreciation you provoke with this genre.
Thank you!

Thank you again for posting another great work. I do hope you return to Golgotha in the not too distant future.

So I guess “safe-spaces” were also a thing in Roman times because that pic is clearly of the female-only area, or possibly a special Womens Crucifixion Day?

PS - Absolutely stellar rendering, you’ve excelled yourself, well worth the wait despite mp5stab’s protests, although of course I fully agree seeing more of your work would be delightful! Thank you!

PPS oh, my bad, there’s some guys to the left, I missed that, distracted by the right hand spectacle!
