Well I dont really see evidence of the existance of the cornu in Roman sources or even in this graffiti (Which is a well known graffiti denigrating what the Romans called ‘the crucified god of the Christians’). I mean, if this was real wouldnt there have been mention of it in Tacitus, or even more so Josephus? I mean Josephus explains for example how the Roman legions besieging Jerusalem crucified many so-called jews in many different positions and were very creative about them. Again, no mention of a device in the ass.
Dont get me wrong, I really could believe the Romans to be capable of this because of their sexualized culture and extreme abhorrence to feminized males and harlots. So my point is. I do not believe the cornu to be an historical fact till I see alot more evidence. That of course doesnt mean the idea cannot be enjoyed (but it still being a modern anachronistic addition).

And the same for cornus: I am not sure if the Romans used them, but in a Roman mindset the cornu+cross is a depiction of the God Priapus and the crucifixion is a symbol of "fucked by the state". For us today that all does not matter, so a lot of the horror of the crucifixion ment for Romans we are just missing.
