Waiting for Godot is an existentialist play by Samual Beckett where two characters are waiting for someone called Godot whom we never meet.

Who is Godot?

The original Godot was a cyclist in the 1930s who regularly came last in every stage of the Tour de France. Not only last but Eddie the Eagle last, emerging from the horizon long after the other competitors had gone by. He became almost a cult figure and crowds would wait to cheer him on his way; indeed he became so famous that "Waiting for Godot" became a colloquial phrase meaning waiting pointlessly for nothing to happen.
Becket adopted the phrase as the title for his play.
BTW I think this is true. At any rate, it's not something I made up.
